Alternative to File Explorer (that shows extra large thumbnails in 4K)

I had not anticipated this problem, but it seems that there are a lot of scaling problems with this 4K laptop. I opened up the options for one program, and it was so small that I couldn't read it. That was the case for a few other programs as well. Perhaps the most troubling thing, though, is the fact that File Explorer can no longer show extra large thumbnails like it did before. You can still click "extra large", but the size is no bigger than the "large" thumbnails.

I searched a bit, and it seems there are alternatives to File Explorer that people find to be better, and more stable (without the dreaded "Not Responding" that you often get with File Explorer). I found several alternatives in my search, but I couldn't really find any consensus on which one was the best, so I thought I would inquire here and see if anyone could recommend a good file manager, particularly one that can display "extra large" thumbnails in 4K resolution.

Thanks.

Right click on the desktop, Resolution Settings, click on "Make text and other items large or smaller" From here you can modify the sizing options.
This should help.

That changes the size of everything and makes everything larger, which means much less can fit onto the screen - so that's not what I'm looking for (and I actually tried that already).

Have you tried holding down CTRL and then scrolling up or down? This will no doubt enlarge them.

I hadn't tried that, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't change the limit of the thumbnail sizes... which is to say, "extra large" is still the same size, and it doesn't go any larger than extra large. The only thing that does is allow you to change the size in a more gradual way using the scroll - it doesn't allow you to make it any bigger than "extra large".

I tried it just to make sure, and confirmed what I had thought. The upper limit of "extra large" is still the same - no bigger.

There are plenty of photo-management apps where you can set arbitrary size of thumbnail view. Yes - that's another app to manage your "files", but may be that's what you want. File Manager, after all, is file management app. If you can read file names, thumbnails should be the right size.

Yes, actually that's what I was asking for, if anyone knew of a good file management program - an alternative to the Windows 10 File Explorer - that would be able to display larger thumbnails. I downloaded a few of them, after doing a search and reading some reviews and seeing which ones sounded best - so I guess I'll just try them out one by one and see if they are able to do what I'm looking for them to do.

As far as your last sentence goes, you would think that's the case, but like I said, there's no difference between "large" and "extra large" in this 4K laptop... and the problem is that "large" is actually pretty small, and it's hard to tell what's in a picture on the 15" screen with that size of thumbnail. Of course I can read the file names, that's no problem, but I want to be able to see what's in a picture without having to double-click on it and open it.
