[SOLVED] Alternatives to NVIDIA RTX 3070?

We are building a gaming PC and have almost all of the parts except for the graphics card. My son is set on the NVIDIA RTX 3070 but is sold out everywhere and has been for a while. I wanted to suggest an alternative that would be just as good for gaming and meets his requirements. He wants something that will allow 165 FPS including while streaming and that supports games like Call of Duty, Sea of Thieves, and similar graphics. He also wants something that will support VR as he will be getting a VR headset in the future. Thank you in advance!

the 3070 is roughly a 2080ti in performance. but you won't find one of those either. this is just a terrible time to buy a gpu and anything you do find is overly expensive.

you're best bet from what i have been hearing is to get on a waiting list from a company directly. evga and some others let you get onto a list and you get a card whenever they have them and your name is next on the list. otherwise, you're gonna be waiting a while for stock and prices to stabilize. lots of scams out there so be wary of anyone selling for a decent price since no one truly is.

amazon will let you pre-order from there every now and then but only from amazon directly and not those 3rd party sellers. might get lucky there but the rest of the world is also hoping to get lucky, so good luck there.

Finder yourself a stockinformer and try and grab a card, the second it goes on sale, at a retailers... that’s what many of us did

Which country are you buying from? In the UK if you want to get hold of a 3070 without paying over the top the only way I have seen is buying a prebuilt from a custom builder. They seem to be keeping their stock for their own systems and not selling separately.

If you’re UK, it really isn’t difficult to get a 3070 from Currys for around £600. You generally have multiple stocks per day, every day.

Thanks, this helps quite a bit. We can put our names on some waiting lists. Do you know of any in addition to EVGA? I'm not too familiar with all of the outlets that sell these parts.

the amd RX 6800 is the comparable model to those though it is a good bit stronger and closer to a 3080. there is no 6700 yet to match the 3070 but if you're looking that's a choice as well.
