Looking to know which gigabyte motherboard would be compatible with my build.
i7 600k / GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1070 / G.Skill TridentX 16gb (2x8gb) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2666 (PC3 21300) Desktop Memory Model F3-2666C12D-16GTXD

I'm not sure if motherboards work with just any ram (as DDR4 seems to be more prevalent now) or chipset (I noticed AMD and Intel specific boards listed on newegg) so I'm confused.

Solution
Intel recommends using memory that adheres to the JEDEC memory specification. Intel says anything over this voltage can either damage the processor or significantly reduce processor life span.
•For DDR3 memory: 1.5 volts, plus or minus 5%
•For DDR3L memory: 1.35 volts, plus or minus 5%
•For DDR4 memory: 1.2 volts, plus or minus 5%

G.SKILL TridentX Series Memory Model F3-2666C12D-16GTXD is designed for 4th and 5th Generation Intel Core Processors and the Z87 & Z97 motherboard platform. A recommended DRAM voltage of 1.65v makes this unsuitable for newer Intel CPUs and motherboards.

If haven't seen any memory manufacturers list any DDR3 memory frequency higher than DDR3-1866MHz as being compatible with the i7-6600k.
