Am I able to upgrade my motherboard from MSI Z87-G41 to MSI Z97S SLI Plus without any problems?

I'm sticking to the same brand of motherboards, both for and (hopefully) simplicity of this swap. My processor is an Intel i5 4570 (not K). I'm writing to know if I'll have to reinstall or reactivate Windows 8.1, or any anything similar. Data is also an issue, I can't risk losing it all. Would it be fine to swap motherboards, considering they're the same brand?

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

Chipset is different, even with the same brand (MSI), you will have to do a fresh OS install. Just make a back up with an external HDD and install the OS again.

Will I have to deactivate and reactivate the product key for windows? Also, what will happen to all the data on my hard drive. Will it be wiped completely? If so, then I have a way to get a backup so that's not a big problem.

You need to do a BackUp, since your have an "open" OS licence, you can install it in any rig that you want (only one at time).

Remember do a backup, the new fresh OS install will wipe (delete) all the information in your hard drive...
