Am I damaging my GPU?

Hello! I just put together my first ever gaming PC! (WOOHOO!)
And decided to test it out on the 2013 Tomb Raider.
I put it on the "Ultimate" preset and played a couple hours like that.
On MSI Afterburner, It read that my GPU, had reached a max temp of 74 degrees Celsius, and was averaging about 65 degrees. MSI afterburner read it to be at 99% Usage often.

My rig is as follows:
CPU: i5-4670k
GPU: MSI N770 TF 4GDDR5/OC
Mb: MSI Z87-GD65
PSU: Antec HCG-620

My question is, is this a safe temperature for my GPU, and should it be reaching that high with my rig on a game like Tomb Raider? (1920 x 1080) resolution, averaging 55fps.

Btw, Are there any settings that I can toggle to decrease temp, and increase performance? (eg; fan speed, Clock speed etc) and how can I do this?

It isn't too hot... when it hits 80 degrees Celsius I would be concerned. You can sometimes change fan speeds in the software for the graphics card. You could also increase fan speeds for the case in the BIOS.

You could change the fan speed, but be warned, it is better to leave it on auto. If you put the fan speed to something consistantly higher, you risk the chance of burning out your fans. You might need a case with better airflow, or if possible, add a fan that faces directly towards your GPU.

I have two 780s and have similar temperatures, which is most likely due to better airflow.

Those fans are not gonna burn out by upping the fan profiles. If this was the case you wouldnt have access to fan profiles. I have been running my gtx560ti classified on a customer fan profile because its been over clocked for the last 2 years and not a single issue. You can setup a custom profile and just give it a more aggressive fan speed at say 70celsius instead of 74 Celsius or something along those lines. My cards normal temp on auto profile is like 78-82 celsius on stock clocks. I have it hitting a max of 70celsius with a fairly hefty overclock. Only time the fans really ramp up is when gaming so its not much different than the stock fan profile Its just set to hit a higher rpm at a slightly lower temperature. Its a great idea since gpu's like lower temps and last longer on lower temps. Most cards fan bearings are set to last far longer than the card itself anyway. Sure there are faulty fans time to time but thats why the manufacturer offers warranty.

My apologizes, I should've been more clear. You are correct in that case, but there have been multiple cases where people have adjusted their fan speed to 100% or close to it, and left it like that. Their fans were the ones that burned out.

Well duh if you turn your fan speed to 100% 24/7 for a year or so I have no doubt it could possibly do something. But why anyone would do that is beyond me because the noise would be annoying. Fans are made to run anywhere from 30% to 100% off and on for like some insane amount of hours or some I think are rated for like 10+ years

i have a GTX 760 and gpu boost 2 makes the card run a 81'C thats normal for my card
All the GTX 7XX cards have GPU BOOST 2.0 wich in short make the card work as hard as it can till it gets to 80C then slows down till it get a stable temp 75-85'C

as for overclocking the card IMO GPU tweak from asus is the best u can use it on any card no matter who its made by dont worry about overclocking to much as it will just BCOD and the fan will go crazy and restart

a good thing to have is the latest GPU drivers from nvidia saved to the desktop so u can reinstall them easy do a custom reinstall on the driver and click fresh install


IMO DONT change the fan speed set it to auto and let it do its thing MSI kinda no what thay are doing

just for peace of mind google GPU BOOST 2.0 it will tell u 80'C is fine
