Am I expecting too much from my system?

So I have a question about my system. I feel that it isn't performing optimally.
When I am playing Battlefield 4 I have all the settings on medium, anti-aliasing etc. off but I still only get around 40 fps with frequent frame stuttering.
From what I have found, 2 gtx560ti are just outperformed by a gtx760. And a gtx760 should be able to run bf4 in ultra settings. So why can't I at least run bf4 with a solid 60 fps with high settings?

Here are the specs: (I copied them from the order form 😛)
CPU: Intel Core i7 950 (4x 3066 MHz with HT) Quad Core
CPU-cooler: Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B SCMG-2100
Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH X58
Memory[RAM]: 6GB DDR3 1333Mhz (Tri Channel)
HDD 1: 500GB 7200 RPM SATA
HDD 2: 500GB 7200 RPM SATA
Graphics card: 2x Nvidia GTX 560 ti (1024MB GDDR5 | DX 11) in SLI
Power supply: Cooler Master Silent Pro 700W 85+

This system is already 2,5 years old so I am not surprised that it can't run every game on ultra settings but still I expected more of it.
So am I expecting too much from my system? 😛

Thanks

What resolution are you gaming at? If it's a high resolution the 1gb graphics card memory might be hurting as the data is duplicated to both cards in SLI so it doesn't add up (ideally you want 2gb per card for 1080p, try turning down memory intensive settings like textures to see if you get a big increase- if that's the case its memory that's your bottle neck).

Also are you playing multi-player by any chance? Remember that the benchmarks are usually of single player so 60+ fps single player will probably give you 40 in multi-player.

Also have a look at your CPU usage, that's a fairly old cpu by modern standard (and benchmarks are done on TOP end cpu's to remove that issue). Don't get me wrong- that's a decent cpu, however if it is holding things back you might want to look at over-clocking it.

Final thing to note- multi cards are notorious for being stuttery- it's been getting allot better but there are still issues depending on the game. It might be worth looking for some reviews of Battlefield in SLI as it might just be a problem with the game itself.

The first thing I do in the options is setting the resolution as high as possible. So I should probably turn that down. 😛 I also mainly play multiplayer.
And how do I check my CPU usage and CPU/GPU temps?

I have just updated to latest drivers and I'll give the game a go with a lower resolution.

Thanks for the quick responces :)

For the cpu usage, just alt-tab back to windows and open up task manager (right click on the task bar in the desktop enviroment and cick 'start task manager'). Go to the performance tab. If you have dual screens you can keep it up on one screen and play on the other. I'm not sure how many cores Battlefield 4 supports, however if you notice a couple of cores maxed out and the others idle that will be due to the thread limit of the game (and cores running flat out means the cpu is holding you back).

As for GPU and CPU temps, CPU can be checked in the bios pretty easily (run the game for a bit to warm everything up then restart and have a look). GPU I'm not sure, on AMD cards you can check it easily in the Catalyst software but I'm not certain on the Nvidia card. I'm pretty sure there are tools you can download to check it though.
