My first question is
Why are you buying a gaming Laptop?

Because now these days,
You can build a monster PC on this money. Laptop is not really worth for gaming. Don't waste your money buddy. Spent this money to building a gaming PC. That's would really worth.

Gaming laptop is always gives you less performance in comparison to gaming PC.

Traveling and college is the main reason. But I agree, if I would be mostly in one area I would get a desktop but not ideal for my situation.

Solution
I am going from an Asus Rog G751JT-WH71(WX) to an MSI GS63 Stealth 8RE.
This should be a better laptop than what I currently have? The GPU seems better but I am seeing a lot of different models under the same name, I am looking to see if the CPU is better, but I can't find it on cpubenchmark.net

ASUS https://specspro.net/laptops/699-asus-rog-g751jt-wh71/
MSI https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GS63-Stealth-8RE/Specification

Cpu comparing website https://www.cpubenchmark.net/

What is the CPU and video card in the systems? Can't open the ASUS link.

As someone who had the same passing thought when I was in college, I can tell you a desktop in your dorm/apartment is going to be a far better choice.
I almost never used my laptop for classes anyway, and the "home" setup was a nice comfort in my dorm.

Plus, if you really want to, build an ITX system.
