First, let me start by saying that I am totally new to overclocking. I am competent enough with tech and electronics in general, I love messing around with my Arduino, dual boot Linux, and am comfortable tweaking things. However, saying all that, I lack the experience when it comes to overclocking.
So I bought a G3258, and a cheap ASRock B85 motherboard. The motherboard was able to OC the CPU out of the box, and has a number of preset clock speeds to choose from, basically incrementing 3.6, 3.8, 4.2, and 4.4ghz. The voltage levels are also preset, though voltage, Core Clock and multiplier are all editable.
When I initially set up the system, I chose 4.2 and ran with it. The computer runs wonderfully, is stable and temps never exceed 60 when under full load. Voltage is somewhere in the 1.2V range. So I decided to bump it up a little bit and see if there was a perceptible difference. I changed to the preset 4.4ghz, and booted into Windows. The system again ran fine, though temperatures did creep up to a maximum of 69 degrees, and the CPU voltage was 1.442V.
I've tried messing with the Core clock and voltages, basically trying up to 4.4 @ 1.35V but the system is not at all stable.
I guess in short, is that WAY too much voltage for the CPU? Temps seemed a little high, but I don't really know how hot is too hot. Is there a "never go over" voltage?
