Am I installing my motherboard right or is it going to be another $100 mistake? (Pics included)

This is how my case came:

As you can see. 6 holes and 1 metal standoff that can not be removed.

I tried installing the motherboard just like this and it would not start but as soon as id lift it up on cardboard Vola it would start perfect. Obviously with it having to do with grounding out I figured thats why the plastic standoffs were there (only included two)

So I installed them like this:

I never put any screws anywhere and the only place the mobo was touching was on the plastic and metal standoffs. It started! so I shut it off and installed 1 screw where the red arrow it, flicked the switch and pop. There goes my motherboard.

When I looked everything over (I was obviously rushing and not thinking) in the bag of goodies I seen metal standoffs :pfff:

I arranged them like this and kept the plastic ones off:

It lines up with my mobo perfect and its all set up for the new one I had to buy. -.-

Before I go blowing my new one will this work?! Or am I just going to blow up another surface mount cap on my new motherboard and then ill be in depth $200 without a computer to use.

Also, Does it matter which screws I use? I was using the completely round headed one.

Hi

The head of the screw does not matter
The screw thread must match the thread in the brass pillars

I suggest placing motherboard on sheet of paper
Drawing round board then marking all holes in board except for those relating to cpu heat sink mounting
Normally there will be a metalic circle round each holeIf not you may need to use washers or plastic stand off pillars

Then use paper to ensure pillars are in correct locations without damaging underside of board

The brass or metal pillars & screws are required to ensure earth ( ground) contact to ensure the board works reliably

Alright I should be good then. Thanks but can you tell me why my motherboard blew like that just being grounded to one place on the chassis as opposed to it not turning on when its fully touching the chassis?

Could you tell me if im going to need washers? Im guessing not considering it never came with any.
