Am I misunderstanding ASUS Z170i Pro Gaming memory QVL?

I am in the process of picking parts for an ITX build. Have been considering the ASUS Z170i Pro Gaming motherboard and was checking the QVL to look at memory options, looking specifically at the 3000mhz speed and a 16g (2x8g) kit.

Here's where my confusion lies: What I've noticed is that on the QVL most of the the kits listed are quad channel kits and mostly in the 4x4g format. This isn't limited to just the 3000mhz list. With the Z170i only having 2 DIMM slots, thus being a restrained to single or dual channel, how are quad channel kits making the list and how do I interpret this list into a compatible choice? Also is this an "oops" on ASUS' part or and I just missing some pieces of information?

Here's a link to the QVL: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170I-PRO-GAMING/HelpDesk_QVL/

If anyone has experience with this board I'd love to hear your memory selection and Pros/Cons.

Looking to stick with G.Skill, HyperX, or Corsair

They simply test with what they have acvailable in their labs, at the time guessing it was primarily DRAM from when the X99s were tested. You should be fine with basically any 2x or 4x set of DDR4. For 3000 sticks you'll be wanting a K model CPU as a bit of CPU OC may be needed to run 3000. The best 3000 sticks I've worked with thus far have been the GSkill TridentZ and RipJaws V lines of DRAM

Kind of what I figured re: the x99 leftovers. This was the only hang up I've had with picking parts and it gave me enough of a WTF moment that I thought it best to ask around. I have an i5 6600k so getting the RAM to 3000 won't be an issue. Huzzah for G.Skill, almost always my first choice.

Yep, very good, I was running the 32GB (4x8GB set of 3200/16 which were very good, then picked up the 2x16GB TriZ 3200/14 and got a pair of the 4x8GB to play to put me to 48GB. Have also run some 3000 and 3200 sets of RJ V. No problems with my 6600K

hi guys, I have the same problem. I red the QVL list and found almost no dual stick memory at 3000. What memory ??? How about Kingston 4x2 Savage or predator? Their Fury line only reach up to 2660 which aint enuf. We may do better than that Asus, wont we? I am also hesitating between a 6100 and 6500 processor. I know notting about OC stuff, but I am getting the Z board for sure because of the magic how much faster you may make the system just by one or two clicks on a XMS profile. but, but, I dont know how to get a suitable 3000 memory with a low CL which may not terrorize the board to panic and shut down.
