Am I properly grounded?

I've just bought some anti-static gear and wanted to know if clipping the alligator clip to a piece of bare metal in back of my heating unit would result in a proper ground.

Just clip the alligator clip to your case. You will be grounded. The idea is that your on the same electrical level as your components.
