Question am i safe from what happened

i was browsing online movie sites. as you know a lot of those sites have pop up advertisement pages because that's how those websites make their money

i got this advertisement page hxxp://klikpayrf.tk/?ae. it opened in full screen browser mode and it said that my computer is blocked and i need to pay to unblock. i knew that it is a trick so i did cntrl alt delete and i opened task manager and i ended the task for the browser

i just want to confirm that my laptop is ok

Probably is ok. Maybe download some anti virus software (like Avast!) and do a full scan of your laptop

a good popup blocker never hurt, I've had great luck the last year to two with Ublock Origin....

Agree with the two preceding posts.

Overall, those "ads", "warnings", "pop--ups" happen to me to or three times a week when researching some topic or issue.

I ignore the message and just exit as quickly and as gracefully as I can.

If the "X's" to close the pop-ups/windows do not work then I close the browser. If the browser is locked or otherwise will not close, I try to end task via Task Manager to shutdown the browser.

Worst case: I may need to exit everything possible and restart.

And I agree entirely with what @Ralston18 has said.

These kinds of pop-up screens even sometimes make it through uBlock Origin and similar (and I can speak from direct experience - as I had one of these appear for the first time in many years about two weeks ago).

These are social engineering scams where they rely on the user to panic and start actually clicking through on links/buttons that are presented in those windows. That's how you actually get infected. The window presents the opportunity for end-user action to trigger the infection vector, but it is not the actual infection vector itself.

Always try seeing if hitting ESC works before trying "the red X" at the corner of the window. I don't even trust that, to be perfectly honest, and prefer to close down my browser from another window rather than interact directly in any way with these pop-ups. The less you do and the quicker you do it to dispense with those pop-up windows without interacting with them in any way the better off you are.
