Am I screwed?

I just bought a brand new Alienware system one week ago (P4 3.2 @ 800Mhz FSB, 1 Gig DDR, 250Gig HDD). At the time, the best graphics card you could add to the config was a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MB, so I went with it. TWO DAYS LATER, they added the 9800 XT to their lineup. Am I totally screwed? Does the XT perform much better than the Pro? Thanks in advance!

You would think they would not release any new hardware after you buy your pc.

Shocking!

The XT is a 9800 PRO with slightly faster clockspeeds and an auto-overclocking feature. No more.

I've read all the reviews. Does no one have a personal opinion specifically between the 9800 Pro and the XT?

There, some solid info! Thanks Cleeve.<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by jgilland on 10/31/03 01:13 PM.</EM></FONT></P>

Seriously Dude, Sell your POS AlienWhere and Buy a Voodoo, they liquid-cool their Cards, and would kill your Alienware. Too bad you bought that hunk of junk. Serves you right thugh for not reading all the PREVIEWS, and for consulting with US first.

Next time, send ME your money and I'll send you a Killer rig. You do realize that ATI's very BEST cards have SE at the end of them indicating SUPERIOR/SUPREME EDITION. Send me your money and I will send you the goods.
BTW, wanna buy a watch?

The preceding post was brought to you by the 'Is he for real? society' fostering incredulity at the expense of knowledge.

BTW, something better is always around the corner, the thing is to understand if it is worth waiting to reach it.

For the price you pay for an Alienwarez system - You're always gonna get screwed. How much did you pay for that thing? Any of us could probably build the same system for half of what you paid, Maybe LESS even!

Now for the performance difference between the Radeon 9800 Pro and the 9800 XT, you're not screwed at all.

The coolest thing about Alienware PCs is their case design.

Can you buy those cases from them without buying a PC?

Alienware is going to start selling just the cases. There was a blurb about it about a month or so ago at [H].

I would buy one. Especially if they made it in Purple!

I built my first 4 computers and am well aware of the money you can save going that route. I'm tired of building. Their cases kick ass and to my knowledge, they do not plan to sell them seperate soon. I'm not hardcore enough to go epoxy/whatever my own alien head so blah! Thanks for the Pro/XT comments.

Oh yea, I also sold one of my rigs to a family member so alot of the alienware is paid for.

I think I'd go black with RED leds... or maybe black with green leds, not sure.

I hope they sell 'em separately. I'm a sucker for aesthetically pleasing computer cases.

Mine is "Saucer Silver" with "Astral Blue" leds. I don't prefer black for a PC case. One of my old rigs was black and it collected dust like a mother.

Well, if you would have read the announcement at the top, you would see why there is not much there yet :).

Please note that since Gilland Content Management System is still under developement, some functions of the site may not yet work. Please be patient as more and more modules are coded for GCMS!
I'm in the middle of coding GCMS, a PHP-Nuke like program.

And more back to the point of this old post of mine, I got my Alienware in and it has a 9800 XT in it! Some pictures I made really fast are available here: www.josephgilland.com/newpc.zip -- please forgive the file size, didn't have a chance to compress them.
