That's because The Evil Within 1 is a true survival horror type horror game. Even though I'm pretty good at shooters and most games I play, that one I played my first run through on Casual, because I had heard feedback that it was a very challenging game.

As it turned out I was glad I did start on Casual. It was still challenging the first play through, but not so much so that I couldn't manage. Yeah...
I liked The Evil Within 1, and played it a lot. It started out kinda rough, with graphics problems and bugs, but that was all fixed about 3 months after launch with a patch. It had a heavy glare filter which washed out colors and added blur, but you could disable it with a command, which is how I played it. It's Vsync was never good, but there was a command to get around that as well.

I've played The Evil Within 2, but I really don't like it's gameplay nearly as much. The enemy AI are far too stupid. Worse yet, they added a cover and takedown system that makes it even easier. If the enemies see you, all you have to do is run a little ways. Once you're out of sight for a few seconds, they immediately stop searching for you.

In The Evil Within 1, if you run away after being spotted, the enemy will run after you, and keep running to the last point they heard you running, even if they can't see you. This means you have to stop running when you're out of sight of them and hope they don't get to you by the time you find a hiding spot.

Stealth is more challenging in The Evil Within 1, you have to be very careful how you sneak up on enemies, as they are unpredictable as to how they turn from side to side and turn around, plus they hear much better. I also felt the game world and enemies in The Evil Within 1 was more dark and gruesome.

I keep wanting to go back and play through The Evil Within 2 another time, but I just can't bring myself to because it's such a let down from the last one. If you haven't played the first one, you really ought to check it out.

Maybe you are right about it , the gameplay and the enemies was easy , when they spot you , all you have to do is run away and that will be enough for now , i played the evil within 1 , and as u said , the game was very nice , and hard to approach some enemies , stealth , attack etc ... And the story was nice too

But what i hated about the evil within 1 , in the last mission i guess , when u want to kill those 3 guys , a box head i think , the checkpoint on this mission was ended and i cant go back , my point is. ,I dont have any ammo , and i cant find any ammo there , thats actually ruined my game , i didnt finish it because of that , well its not a big deal , but it was a really nice game , for my experience about this game , i think the game is really dark like u said , it make u feel little depression lol , its crazy people , crazy game , crazy story , yeah i like it alot

And the evil within 2 what i like about this game , is the story , the story was heart break , when his wife getting killed to protect her family , and when he find his daughter that was very nice , i love all the evil within 1 and 2 very nice

As it turned out I was glad I did start on Casual. It was still challenging the first play through, but not so much so that I couldn't manage. Yeah, there are at least a few parts in the game where you have to decide whether you want to try to escape with more resources, or spend them and kill what's confronting you.

Either way it's a game that takes a while to master, and it also has great replay value. Just the fact that each higher difficulty level has not just tougher enemies, but also more enemies and traps, makes each play though feel different. I'm really upset they dumbed down the franchise so much, but it was no doubt because so many people claimed the first one was too hard.

The reality is, too many people don't have the patience to learn how to play the challenging games anymore. It takes a bit of trial and error and experimenting to find ways to deal with enemies effectively while managing your resources well. This is what I did my first couple play throughs. I would replay checkpoints until I found the best way to dispatch or escape with little use of resources.

Plus if you don't find all or at least most of the statues, and unlock the lockers at the hospital that have ammo, gel and health, you're setting yourself up for frustration. Truth be told, despite many claiming the stealth, especially later in the game, is broken, there are a lot of places throughout the game where you can use it effectively.

What I love about The Evil Within 1, is it not only has a true horror game feel, it makes you think a lot how to best play it. Games like that are rare these days. I played it several times through, and literally went from struggling a fair bit my first play through on Casual, to eventually beating it on Akumu and even on Nightmare with no upgrades in about 13 hours and 30 deaths, and at least a 3rd of those deaths were from failed trial and error experiments. After that I realized if you're about to be killed, you need to hit Esc and restart the checkpoint before the death actually happens. Point being, there's a LOT to learn about how to play the game well. I've seen vids of some beating it on Akumu with no upgrades, and it can be done pretty quickly if you know what you're doing.
