AM2 compatiable cpu

Chipset Vendor AMD
Chipset Model 780G

Southbridge Vendor AMD
Southbridge Model SB700
Southbridge Revision 00

I was wondering if the AMD Phenom x4 9950 would be compatible with this. This processor is am2+ and my socket is am2. I have read mixed opinions on these sockets' backwards compatibility. Anyone know for sure?

95w cpus might work, but there's no guarantee. If the 9950 cpu is 95 or less, you may try it, but it would be better to change boards if you have a separate copy of windows. Dell windows only works with dell boards.

It's 125W. 9750 is the first 95W

generally you can look on the Motherboards manufacturers website for a support list. I would stick with an AM2 cpu if i were you though, as the support plus functionality is limited when using AM2+ on AM2.
