[SOLVED] AM2 CPU on AM3 mobo works

Yes, some AM3 motherboards can support older gen CPU's. This is quite normal actually.

I've read somewhere that only AM3 processors work on AM2(+) motherboards due to the presence of both the DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers on the processor, but not as well AM2 CPU on AM3 board.

It's called back ward compatibility. Not every mobo is backward compatible, but some are between different generations of CPU.

M, didn't knew are are two versions of the same model, under two different archictures.
That explains all.

AMD did a lot of this back in that era. A lot of the same cpus with different architecture, tdp, and more. Made it really hard to figure what you needed sometimes.
