Hey, so will it work am2 with ddr3 ? I readed that didnt work, but what could be if i turn on computer inserted ddr3 ram with am2 processor ?

Solution
AM2 processors contain the memory controller on-chip and it only supports DDR2. So no luck there.

If you tried to stick DDR2 into a DDR3 slot it wouldn't fit properly. They're not the same physical format. You might be able to smash it in, but you'd likely destroy the RAM or RAM slot doing so.

It depends on the Boards, during the transition period Hybrid boards were around that contained both DDR2 and DDR3 slots, this allowed the use of AM2, AM2+ and AM3 CPUs. A standard AM2/AM2+ CPU lacks DDR3 support but AM3 Chips contain both DDR2 and DDR3 support which allows then to run in AM2/AM2+ boards "up to 95 Watts".

Here is a example of one of the Hybrid Boards, I still have this one BTW.

ASRock 960GC-GS FX AM3+/AM3/AM2+ AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
2 x DDR3 DIMM Slots
DDR3 1866(OC)/1600(OC)/1333/1066

2 x DDR2 DIMM Slots
DDR2 1066/800/667/533

Maximum Memory Supported
8GB(DDR2) / 16GB(DDR3)

Omg are you kidding me ? My motherboard suports ddr2 1066 and ddr3 1600 and am2/3/3+, BUT i have AM2 processor...SO im asking, will computer turn on and works, if i insert 1x4gb ddr3 ram ??? Can you answer ?

Did I not just Explain this to you????

Am2/Am2+ WILL NOT SUPPORT DDR3

Am3 WILL SUPPORT DDR@ and DDR3.

WILL NOT SUPPORT means WILL NOT TURN ON, Beep Code "None Support RAM"

Thanks, now i understood. 😀D
