Hi there,

I have a Phenom x4 II 965 BE (140W) with an Asrock A770de,which isn't a very good mobo, but I have bought it(because it was cheap) along with my CPU since 2010. And now is a bit misfunctioning(after I put some more thermal paste on the cpu and some was slipped to the mobo chip 😀 ) and raises very high the cpu temps and has some booting problems and generally i wanted to upgrade cause this mobo supports ddr2 and its lame..
I was thinking the sabertooth because I've seen its being recommended generally for its good quality of VRMs etc and OC capability. Its also compatible with my CPU and probably I can keep it for a year or more until I upgrade for an FX-8350 or another supported AM3+ CPU.
On the other hand I was thinking of buying an intel(like i5-4690k) and put it on a cheap intel 1150 mobo(generally very simple one) that i have on another pc at home.
I'm pretty on a dilemma here and I would like to hear some opinions on the subject before I do sth.
P.S. I have a after-stock cooler(since my pc buy in 2010) a scythe ninja which was good for a time but after the fail thermal pasting that i did cant keep cool my CPU as it did before. I have put a custom cheap 4-pin Artic fan instead of its 3pin fan. Its not the best but it's a bit quitter and doing the same noise/rpms.. My lame mobo however seems that it cant control the fan speed of any fan on its own.
Thank you in advance..:)

I built my rig after a long time (11 years). I started searching for basics. CPU. All these years i really like AMD 's performances but this i went with Intel.
The 4790k will last nothing less than 5 years. It has multi-threading which many applications and games are making use of. It beats all AMD CPUs in performance and is top of the line Intel. The next comes the i5 4690k. Performance is a bit less when compared to the 4790k in gaming...but video editing, rendering etc, the 4790k will show significant gain.
Also, the AMDs will give you a hard time with temperatures and power consumptions which is not an issue with Intel.
You can use a good Z97 series motherboard for either of the 4790k or the 4690k.

Initially was going to go for the fx 8350 but considering that I'll have to spend for aftermarket coolers etc. i gave up on the idea.
Basically if you are in a budget, then the 8350 get the job done with ease. If budget is not an issue, then go for the i7 4790k.
Both 4790k and 8350 are 8 threaded/cored so multi tasking and future aspect looks good on both. Both should last for at least 5 good years. (3-4 years for the FX)
Hope you don't take months to decide like I did.
All the best
