Hi there!
I'm considering a new build based on 720BE X3 and GA-790XT-UD4P + some CSX 1333, capable 1600, RAM modules.
Has anyone similar Rig?
Performance, overclocking, problems, comments?

Aha scanning thru Egg recently addressing a somewhat similiar thread this was what i came out with :p
$756.92
$ 11.64 ship
$ 75.00 MIR
$693.56 Total

OK, maybe, I didn't point out the question.
How well does am3 & phenom II cope with ddr3?
I have seen few figures, that say nothing. I can't find any good review about am3+ddr3 overclocking etc.
So I'm asking more, like users experience if someone has tried it out.

My thoughts about this theme:
1. AMD has come with really awesome, I have to say, already legendary - 720BE, so if buying, certainly this one.
2. So I was certain to build on ddr2 (cheaper, minor gain with ddr3 etc...), but! When i compared the prices in my place, I realized the fact, that 4gb of 1333 costs about same as 1066 ddr2... (can be found for 86$).
3. Checking MB, GA-MA790XT-UD4P costs aprox same as GA-MA790X-UD4. (140$ here)
So what's the point investing in older technology?
Only thing holding me back is lack of information about performance of this kind of machine or some cons.
That's how I got here. :)

LOL Just finished this on another thread with a guy in the same position as you.

combo deals aside ill compare an am2+ setup with the 720 be and an am3

AM2+ With DDR2

Motherboard = GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-UD4H AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX $138.99

Processor = AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 $135.99

Memory = Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) $69.99

Total = 344.97

AM3 With DDR3

Motherboard = GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790X $139.99

Processor = AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 $135.99

Memory = Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) $98.99

Total = $368.97

Exactly a $24 Dollar Difference Using Essentially The Same Standard Of Components.

So in my personal opinion it would be wise to invest in this growing ddr3 tech it should be very beneficial seeing as how ddr2 will be outdated very shortly and am3 boards are poppoing up left andright at this point, and in my honest opinion this is the most "future proof" am3 board available at the moment.
Mobo = ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX $199.99 Plenty of pci slots and awesome quality the only thing is that the new amd southbridge 800 is just around the bend, http://www.tweaktown.com/news/9761/amd_chipset_roadmap_reveals_southbridge_800_info/

DDR3 is definitely the way to go. it costs a lot less than it did a few months ago, and DDR2 is old now. i'm personally running an am3 cpu on an am2+ motherboard, but only because i wanted to upgrade the cpu rather than the whole computer. if you're starting fresh, there's no reason to go with older technology.
