Hi,

I am looking for some honest advice for my latest upgrade. I currently have a 1st gen ryzen with a B350 mobo and have just ordered a Ryzen 7 3700x to replace it. It is the mobo that is causing the problem as although I get the new features of the X570 chipset, the prices of a half decent one are not great.

It has caused me to look at the last gen x470 boards and wonder whether they are worth looking at as I can get a "higher end" one for the same money as a standard X570. Ideally I would like to get a mobo for about £200.

I use my PC for a mixture of gaming, content creation and animation. I am an eternal tweaker of my system and enjoy overclocking it too so would be looking for a board to help this process.

So is it worth considering the X470 chipset (Asrock Taichi for example) for the Ryzen 7 3700x or should I just go for a less feature packed X570 such as the MSI MPG Gaming Plus - both are around £200.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

There is not anything wrong with the B350 as such but I was just trying to get the best option for the new gen Ryzen 7. I think the B550 could be the way forward and hope the latest bios update is ok for the time being!
A silly thought.... assuming your B350 board has a supporting BIOS, why not just go ahead and get the CPU you want and use it in the board. Only then if it's miserably bad worry about taking the leap to X470.

Otherwise use it till the B550 boards come out and a hopefully more cost-effective, and optimal, choice is available.

Best case outcome is you're thoroughly please with it on B350 and save the cost of either the X470 or B550 board.

The two or three reviews that have tested on X470 in addition to their X570... and that I've seen... are reporting a very small performance delta. In fact, well in their measurement margin of error.

Tough call. I'm not impressed by X570 at ALL (quite the opposite).

What's the issue with your B350 mobo exactly? If nothing except features, perhaps limp it out for a few more months until B550 mobos launch?
