Hello everyone,
As the title states, I'm planning on a substantial upgrade for my PC. Primarily focused on gaming.

Current Specs:
GPU: GTX 1070
CPU: Intel Quad Core i7 2600k 3.4GHz
RAM: 16GB
OS: Windows 7 64-Bit
Resolution: 1920x1080

Desired Specs:
GPU: RTX 2080
CPU: Intel Core i9-9900K 8 Cores 5.0GHz
RAM: 64GB DDR4
OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
Resolution: 1920x1080

I also plan on purchasing a 1TB SSD and a new motherboard, but regarding the latter, I'm at loss at where to begin. Like I said, amateur.

I am aware that these specs are overkill for 1080p60, but I play the long game. I want this baby locked and loaded for the next generation.

Any sort of feedback would be much appreciated!

Don't buy that much GPU for 1080p 60Hz if you have no intent to upgrade to 1440p 144Hz. For one, Nvidia will be releasing their first 7nm Ampere GPUs (RTX3000) in a couple months (June 2020) with better ray tracing and whatnot. And on that note, every generation is better than the last generally.
Keep your GTX1070 for another year at least.

The rest, fine.
64GB RAM is a lot more than you'll need for the foreseeable future, but RAM prices are pretty low ATM and expexted to rise this year. Then we'll have DDR5 in 2021ish. Probably won't see DDR4 prices much lower than they are now.

You can save quite a bit of money by getting something like a Ryzen 3700 or 3900 alont with a X570 or even a B450 motherboard

64GB of RAM for a gaming computer is massive overkill. 16GB is considered a good amount for a gaming rig and if you want more then get 32, but 64 is just a waste. If you do go with ryzen get 3200mhz or faster RAM

Dont cheap out on a PSU especially for that hardware. Stick to tier S or 1. https://www.gamingscan.com/psu-hierarchy/

And as others have said, that system is overkill for 1080P, get a good 1440P monitor or just keep what you have.

Only thing I would change in the system is the CPU, if you can go up a few generations of CPU in your current board that should be fine for new games with a 1070 card. What I would do is get a used motherboard and the newest CPU that still uses the DDR3 RAM you have and use that for a bit. You have enough RAM, a good enough video card, no need to spend over 1,000 when you can do a setup that is still good for 1/5th of less of that.
