Hi all,

I just had to put up a post after seeing with my own eyes the OC'ing ability of this CPU. The chip costs 93$ with shipping, and with my A7V333 operates at 13x161=approx 2.1Ghz. I have an 03 02 model (not as good an overclocker as earlier models), standard 1.6 voltage, and cooling with an 7+ HSF.

Also, I have to say...my old Palomino XP2000 would run REALLY hot heavily OC'd (60-70c) and man my room would get warm quick. Anyway, my point is this CPU OC'd from 1.73 to 2.1 still idles at 35C, and 45C under load. It's a fun chip to play with (and multipliers are unlocked past 13).

Excellent. Maybe I'll be having as much fun as you by the weekend, since I ordered from NewEgg on Monday. Ordered T-Bred 2100, A7N8X, Leadtek Ti4200 128MB, 512MB Crucial PC2700, Lite-On DVD, etc, and my case is painted and ready. FedEx's tracking site shows it on a truck in town, so I imagine I'll be zooming out of work today!

Oh man...with that board? You might be able to just start booting at the 166FSB! I'm gonna try kickin' up the voltage a little tonight. I've gotten it to boot at 2.3Ghz, but it's totally unstable (at standard voltage).

As far as the 1700 goes, could you possibly get any more bang for the buck than that sucker? It's like 50$ with shipping, and OC's like a monster too.

BTW, what do you plan on using to cool your CPU? It sounds like an awesome system.

What do you expect? Its an AMD T-bred B. AMD are now the king of overclockers again. Been a while since the last time that could be claimed with the Durons. You though the P4 1.6A and the 2100XP was good have a look at the XP 1700. 1.4Gighz up to 2.7gighz at least on avarage watercooling. Anyway see what you can get yours up to and post your results.

What r u talking abotu Duron's?? Pssshhh..........

AYHJA 1.0Ghz T-Bird ne 1 ???

sum did 1.55Ghz default voltage!

others needed more voltage for same speed and other were at 1.6Ghz...

or how about the # of ppl. getting AXP 1600+ Palomino to 1.9 - 2GHz ???? =)

The Durons used to be kings. Get one around 600Mhz and you could usualy pump it up to 1 to 1.2gig on good air cooling. Thats a pretty good overclock when you thing about it. Nearly 100% overclock. Very few chips can manage a 100% overclock nowdays. The 1700 T-Bred B`s are one of the very few cores that a large number of them can do a 100% overclock.AREA_51

I've had both of those processors and only wish I could reach the levels you are talking.

1007 Mhz is the best I could do for the Duron and 2100 Mhz is where I am with the Tbred B 1700+. I can probably find another 100 or 200 Mhz. However, for the Tbred the 100% overclock that you claim seems totally out of reach unless one uses LN2 or compressor cooling. 2933 Mhz would be nice though.

99% is great, unless you are talking about system stability

I must have been lucky. I had 1 that did it. I did up the voltage a fair bit of course. But if it is not a typical thing then I will withdraw the statement. I will not withdraw what I also said was that Durons were great overclockers. They truly were good overclockers for their time. And with the T-Breds I was talking about top of the line watercooling with chilled water and insane voltages. Real expensive hardware surrounding it to. But it is possible. For the avarage overclocker you are looking about 2.1 - 2.5gighz for a 1700 or a 2100 on avarage watercooling depending on your individual core. Every core is different. Some will overclock great some will overclock like crap. I was a bit overboard in the fact because I was talking about hardcore overclocking. Where as here only avarage overclocking is relivent. My bad.

Oh, hardcore coverclocking. Well that's different.

My Abit KT7 mobo only went to 1.85 volt but I doubt with my cooler I could push the Duron any further anyway. We didn't have the all copper heatsinks we do now. 1.1 ghz was a rare overclock for a Duron Spitfire at the time (Nov-Dec 2001).

The Duron 600 was still a great overclocker. So were the later Tbird 1000's (AVIA, AXIA, AYHJA, and AYHJAR). This Tbred B 1700+ (JIUHB 0302) is pretty good but I don't think I have one of lucky ones that will reach 2.4 ghz air-cooled.

I think I read a post on here yesterday 'bout someones XP1700+ @ ~2.4Ghz.. (it was a T-bred 'B' core)

I want one!!

Which by the way, is a better overclock than fatburgers 1.6p4 northie, so much for his "impossible challenge".

 Heatsinks, if you dont overclock, use the STOCK!

Err, that would be me *raises hand* It's doing (not exactly 2.4Ghz), 14.5 x 166Mhz FSB, for a little over 2.4GHz on an Alpha Pal8045t, Vantec Tornado with a rheostat, at 1.9 volts (haven't tried lower yet). Gotta love Corsair XMS, Pc3200, max timings and 1t command rate. Epox 8rda+ motherboard ^__^. All it is was a downbinned Tbred B, my guess, a lucky 2800+ rated at a 1700+ speed instead. Newegg.com all the way!

If I was to buy a new AXP1700+ now, what do you think the odds of it being a T-bred 'B' are? I'm thinking about an NForce2 Mobo upgrade, and if I can replace my XP2000+ (palomino) with one of those at the same time, for only ~£40, I'd be a happy man even if I could get only 2Ghz!!

Which mobo would you recommend? I'm leaning toward the Epox at the mo - like the features on the asus but I've read loads of posts from people who've had problems.

For your own sake, don't get the Asus, it sounds to be just a high priced ECS K7S5A lemon under the moniker of the A7N8X. For your odds? I'm not sure honestly, but as long as you get the right stepping, such as AIUHB, the last letter denotes the Tbred B status I think. Yes, I have the Epox motherboard myself, it's a great board. Good features minus any raid whatsoever, but most Nforce2 boards can only do Sata raid anyway, which I doubt many people can even afford leisurely. Overclocks like a champ.

Btw, I was bored in Comp Sci2, so I started writing up a little chart with voltages and settings, and i'm going to try out for 183Mhz Fsb and 200Mhz Fsb with lower multipliers at 1.9 volts

I just bought one from the UK. Look at www.komplett.co.uk - its the 1700+ with the '(thoroughbred)' and if you look at the product code (the U) its a Tbred B. I got mine today to replace my 2000+ and its overclocked to 1900 atm but thats as high as my mobo will go 🙁

Well, imho, SiSoft is relative [-peep-] for "real" useful stats, maybe except it's features like burn in and CPU id. I mostly check my stats using comparisons of 3d mark 2001, UT 2003 scores, Red Faction, Neverwinter Nights, sometimes Quake 3, but also measuring temps under load and idle. So i'm not sure if it's benchmarks, but more like real life fps scores and such.

My palamino went from 1.4ghz to 1.8ghz with .5 raised above the default voltage...forget what the default voltage was for those, meh. it was a hot processor, but once i put a volcano 7 (put on a slower QUIETER fan) , it was about 55ish under load... idle wasnt much lower heheh. Still running today
