Amazon 'Include Installation' question

Hey all,

Has anyone ordered from amazon and selected this service that can tell me about it? I'm about to buy parts that will make a new pc but have never built one in my life. I was going to try since it would be a great learning experience, but I don't want to risk breaking anything.

Also seeing if geek squad is a good option. There is one close to where I live but I don't know if I can trust them, unless I hear good things about them. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong category.

Solution
1. Don't buy the Amazon "installation" thing. I've never ever used it, but I can't imagine that they'd do a better job then any semi-intelligent 14 year old.

2. For the love of FSM, don't pay geek squad to do it.

Assembly is not really that hard. There are tons of videos and tutorials, and people here can talk you through it.

Solution
Agreed. It's a bad idea and you'll likely end up having to pay a reputable tech to fix future issues resulting from poor installation practices, or solving them yourself anyhow. There may be some success stories using the service, but there are likely far more stories about serious shortcomings.

Oh lawd. Thank god i asked first lmao

I agree 100% with both points here. Geek Squad is a ripoff, as is their "expert installation". Seriously I saw them offer $100 for RAM, which is about the easiest thing in the world to install. :ange:

My son's first year of college, I bought him a cheap Toshiba laptop. 2009, about $350.
The drive died on it in 3-4 months.

Took it back for a new warranty drive.
GeekSquad wanted $250 to reinstall the OS, because I hadn't created the factory backup DVD set.
The actual drive replacement was free (warranty), the $250 was for installing the OS.

The young gentleman behind the counter took offense at my reply.
And I even toned it down from what I wanted to say...

They put in a new drive...Upgrade to 250GB vs the original 160GB.
That laptop is sitting next to me, and is the general house testbox. Had Win 10 installed on it the very first day of the Tech Preview.

LOL. U buying PC components and paying for installation? I wonder if Amazon uses a single vendor, and makes ONE visit when you get all your components, or are they going to make separate visits for every single component? House calls? I don't have to look at it, is gonna be expensive. Don't expect the guy to explain while he's doing it, that maybe extra$ :)

Yea I realized this too lol. Honestly would be better to buy from cyberpower if I were going to pay for installation. I'm going to try installing it myself, besides I bought the warranty on everything. Wish me luck haha

Sheesh. Installing ram is as easy as putting two legos together. I also read they aren't really careful, so damages are likely. Best bet is to try and build it myself lol

Buying something from CyberPowerPC is [strike]never[/strike] rarely "better".

I'm fairly new here to the forums and the support I've been getting has been astounding. This is definitely an awesome community :)
