News Amazon jumps on nuclear plant investment bandwagon — taps energy companies to power AI data centers

It's pretty interesting to read about developments in these micro SMRs and other related investments now being driven by the boom in AI/Datacenter driving a greater need for power generation.

It would be nice if large scale commercial investment in nuclear power creates less resistance in harnessing it and driving innovation to reduce the time and cost to build out Fission plants. While Fusion may still be forever 20 years away, even if this cuts it to a perpetual 10 years away, it would be significant.

Finally, the word starts to understand that Nuclear plants are by FAAAAAAAAAAAARRRR the most powerful source of energy, the less polluting, and the cheapest to run all the same time.

Chernobyl accident didn't only damage its surrounding, it also created a fear of Nuclear that ended generating 1000x more pollution by relying on charcoal and gas more than ever, than if we kept investing in the Nuclear energy since then. Double sad.

Gen 4 Nuclear plants cannot blow up by design, and generate hundreds times less waste (and much less toxic too) than previous gens. Chernobyl is a dinosaur in the Nuclear industry design, and comparing a modern Plant to it is like comparing a computer from the 80s to a computer from today...

Amazon sure is late to the game.

Funny how we care about nuclear now that data centers are going hog-wild on electricity consumption, and of course there's no other alternative that can compete.

The SMRs are really exciting. I especially like the Nuscale designs. The big Tech Companies are doing a great thing by bankrolling these. Nuclear Power is one of our best energy sources. I did a few stints in the Navy as a Nuke Power Plant Operator back in the day. I also Retired from Energy Northwest as an Operator. It is a pain in the butt job, (it has to be), but it was worth it.

More plants give us better grid reliability.
