[SOLVED] AMD 2700x vs 3700x - price difference is 29% - Waiting your suggestions

I live in Turkey so prices are based on Amazon Turkey.

First system costs me : 632$

Second system costs me : 816$

So the first system is

MB : ASUS TUF B450M-PRO GAMING AMD B450 AM4 DDR4 4400

RAM : Corsair 64GB(2x32) D4 3600Mhz CMK64GX4M2D3600C18

CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

Second system is

MB : ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS AMD B550 AM4 DDR4 4400

RAM : Corsair 64GB(2x32) D4 3600Mhz CMK64GX4M2D3600C18

CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

I am tending to prefer first system as I believe there wont be 29% performance difference

I am heavily in multi-threading e.g. machine learning algorithms not pc gaming

By the way I own HPC-750-B12S PSU and I believe it would work with the new system as well right?

I also have Noctua NH-D14 and with a kit it says I can use it. Should I buy that kit or unnecessary?

So far what I read that overclocking is not really beneficial in 2700x or 3700x

How much will a MSI B450 motherboard with "MAX" on it cost you? Because MAX boards are 3000 series compatible, you can save cash there. Check out Tomahawk Max B450. I do not know if your use requires that much RAM, but I do think 32 is enough for just about anything (16×2)? But I suppose you know better on that one.

I'd say 3700X + B450 MAX board. And the PSU should work fine. Not sure about the quality, but I don't think it's hazardous

i have a 3700x on a b450 GB Aorus pro and it worked out of the box no problem. i paired mine with 32 gb of ram and have not run out of resources yet with vm's galore

i don't do machine learning but i do fire up multiple vm's regularly and love the extra cores/threads to be sure they can all run what i want them to run.

as for how much gain you'd see with 2700x vs 3700x you really have to check out the programs you will be using. don't think i have seen any machine learning stuff tested with the cpu's. you'll have to do some homework there since all that i have seen are mostly gaming and productivity tests. i'd favoe the 3700x simply to it being newer. i don't have to upgrade every year but i do like to stay on the current gen when i do build. i know the 5000 series is newest but you may not be able to get one of those for months so not sure if it is truly "released" yet

Yeah it's good RAM. Although again, I don't think you'll need 64GB. But I'm not knowledgeable on the machine learning front.

Also what he means by the PSU "no" is, that PSU is pretty unreliable and he wouldn't personally use it. Personally I wouldn't either. If you're willing to spend you should buy a better quality PSU

i'd also agree with the psu suggestion. running a nice expensive system on a junk power plant is not just illogical but can also be dangerous. i've seen $1000+ worth of parts go up in a puff of smoke due to a super cheap psu shaped object failing and taking the system with it. and that's best case. worst case is the puff of smoke is actually flames that can take your whole house with it!!

a few extra bucks for a quality psu is pretty much a REQUIREMENT foundation stone for a pc.

just to clarify I have been using this PSU i dont know but probably for 9 years same as my 2600K cpu which has been under overclock since day 1 @ 4.5GHZ

never had any PSU problem thankfully so far

It probably is fine. But you don't know when it might give up and what it might take with it if it does

30% sounds like a lot, but, if that really just boils down to $200 vs. $260, I'd just get the 3700X...

That psu absolutely needs changing, I can't stress this enough.

Even if it were a 8 year old corsair hx/ax that came with 10 year warranties I'd be dubious about carrying out over to a new build.

Its not though, it's a cheap high power with cheap internals that had a 2 year warranty and a 30c rating.

Your ambient temps in Turkey hit more than 30c regularly, that psu will have aged immensely in 8 years - I'd trust something mediocre like a new corsair cv over that just due to age alone (not that I'm condoning buying a cheap psu for a new system).

You need to balance your budget and get a decent psu in there too, even if that means a B450 board with a 2700x and 32gb total ram.

Re the ram - there's no way you'll run at 3600mhz with 2 x 32gb sticks, It'll likely top out at 2933mhz or maybe even 2666.

I wouldn't spend much more on ram faster than 3200mhz even if going down to 2 x 16gb sticks.

Also there is no mention of a gpu??

The ryzen cpu's don't have integrated graphics so you need one.

Coming from a 2600k even a ryzen 2600 will eclipse an old 2600k, a 2700x will absolutely obliterate it let alone the 3700x.
