does anyone know what the normal running temp of a 64 2800+ is? cause i just got one with the stock heatsink and fan (i'm not gonna overclock it) and i got a bunch of artic silver 5 slapped on. but it runs pretty high temp. i downloaded a program called Motherboard Moniter 5, to tell me the temps. so. i just need to know what the normal temp that they run at it

What is pretty high for you?

And by the way, there is a lot of problems with temperature monitoring/reporting. Often, the readings of MBM5 or motherboard utility are not accurate. ou should try many sensor options in MBM5 and try install the monitoring apps that came with your MB. If all the reading are "high", you might have a problem. But if your "average" temp. of all the reasding you have are within normal range. You don't have to worry.

I think that Athlon 64 temp. with stock cooling are around 50 Celsius (probably never goes over 60 Celsius). But I'm not 100% sure.

Iddle it shouldnt be far from 40°C maximum. Last system I built was a A64 3000+, and it iddled at 32°C and running SuperPI it had a hard time exceeding 40°C (using stock cooler). The above poster is correct though, don't put too much trust in those readings.. check bios, apply some salt, and be happy :)

With stock hsf I get 34 celcius idle and about 38-41 celcius under full load.

Ditto, plus I had a temp probe on the 250 heatsink and it never got above 93F!

Sony DRU-510A - THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

what the heck is wrong with my system then? i have a normal window fan, the kind you put in your room window blowing in right next to the case, and it idles at like 57°C - 59°C. its a stock hsf.

does anyone know if a Thermaltake Venus 12 is anygood?

try reattaching the hsf. You may have it on wrong and it's not getting good contact. remember that the a64 hsfs are alittle different then ones for xps and p4's. Make sure you apply thermal paste too.

those temps definately don't seem right. Sorry to ask, but you never know.. you did remove the plastic foil from the HSF and either used the thermal pad, or you properly applied the thermal compound ? You did not forget to remove the barcode/pricetag whatever from the cpu if any was on it ?

Did you use the backplate that came with the motherboard, or one that came with the HSF ?

Might be a dumb question, all retail heatsinks (that I have seen), come with a thermal pad on them, the post says you used Artic Silver, you did remove the thermal pad first right? Clean the surface well?
