Hello all! I just recently got my AMD 64 3200+ and am loving it!! I just have a question about the clock frequency. When the system boots up it states the clock frequency is 200mhz is this the stepping of the processor? I'am also wondering how to possibly overclock the processor just a little bit...what would be the max I could overclock this processor with the stock fan that it comes with? Any feedback would be appriciated! Thanks!!!

AMD 64 3200+
Gigabyte GA-K8NS PRO
Radeon 9600 pro
2x512 (1gb) pc 3200 Geil Ram (dual ddr)
Audigy Sound Card

For how to overclock an A64 read the guide stickied to the top of this section.

200Mhz is the "FSB" or front side bus (not really on an A64 because of the on-die memory controller, but its' easier to think of it that way).

The Newcastle core 3200+ should make it to 2.4ghz stock , Winchesters possibly 2.6.

Mike.

thanks for the push in the right direction, i've noticed people using the CPU-Z and Prime 95 for overclocking so i'll definatly be using those.

I haven't got around to reading that post mentioned about overclocking (because i'm at work). But will I need to unlock my processor to overclock or anything? And another question, I used the thermal tape that was on the processor, could that be a problem for overclocking? I hear alot of people like the paste better. Thanks.

No, no unlocking or anything physical on the CPU.

That thermal stuff is OK, but you could buy some Artic Silver 5 - which I believe is better.

Lol, well I knew there was nothing 'physical' to unlock, just i've heard people talking about unlocking their athlon xp's to overclock them, wasn't sure if the same was true for the amd 64. Thanks for the paste info!
