Hello everyone
Today i bought AMD 720BE and Biostar 790gx a3

But my processor is of 0907cpmw batch and i heard it cannot unlock the 4th core :(

Ii still havent assembled my pc.
I wanted a 0904xxx batch processor which i can only get fater 4 days from the dealer that too if my luck persists.

Is anyone here having 720be of batch 0907xxxx do let me know have you unlocked the 4th core.

Also i have heard with biostar has 100% success rates of unlocking 4th core no matter what the batch nos.

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that the tri-cores are originally from the quad-cores that had a bad core. But when AMD puts the tri-cores on the market and there is a demand for them they then take a working quad-core and disable a core or makes it out of a quad-core with a bad core.

I could be wrong but this is my understanding of it.

So to say that "biostar has 100% success rates of unlocking 4th core no matter what the batch nos" would probably be untrue for the simple fact that some of the tri-cores just don't have a working fourth core.

biostar is a sub-rate mobo it deffinitly does not have 100% unlock record...... Mosttly it is not about the board but about the processor..... It must have a good enogh core to unlock..... i.e. - some tri cores no matter what board will not unlock because the core is just BAD.

Also depends on the chipset too, right? I think I read some 710-based and most 750-based mobos are capable.

One site I saw months ago had a list of mobos that would unlock the 4th core.

I got a Biostar T-Series AM3 mobo, and it works like a champ. I know it works a lot better than the ASRock board I had.

And yeah, the 4th core has to be at least *somewhat* stable to be OCable. I got my 4-core 720 BE to ~3.4GHz with core temps never going above ~42C now at full load.

Of course, I got new AC in my house too. Ah...21C inside and the PC runs cooler  :sol:

How did you check your cpu temp? As far as I know, there is a bug that shows cpu temp as 0 when you unlock the 4th core.

I have a drive bay mounted temp monitor panel. It shows ambient case temp, drive temp, and CPU temp. You just adhere a probe to where you want the temp taken.

My house currently (oh heck, I forgot to adjust the thermostat when I left this morning!) is kept between 67 and 70F, which is about 19-21C.
My case temps, according to my temp panel, never run above 27C/81F inside the case and I think last night my CPU temp was 37C/98F while running Ventrilo and playing a game (not a 100% load temp).

Plus, my case is fanned out. PCI slot fan between video cards, 2 side fans, rear fan, front fan, PSU fan, ceiling fan OOPS! that's not in the case lol

One thing I can say is...when winter comes, I can stay in my bedroom and not have to turn the heat on. I just leave on my PC, 24" monitor, 24" TV, and audio tuner...and my room stays toasty.

oh man! i been looking at getting a new machine at Christmas. i thought about doing the 2 4870x2s, but it's SOOOOOO expensive.

i'd rather get a dual raid config. i'm gonna raid-0 2 Seagate 500gb drives for boot, and raid-0 2 Kingston SSDs for speed of game playing, and put a 1TB drive in as a removable to do backups once a week.

I might change the config a bit tho before December...maybe 4870x2s will become a reality if the prices go down enough :D
