Can it be done? I haven't been able to find any evidence. I've found some modded bios for my acer but the vram option is still greyed out at 512mb.

Do you know what the term integrated graphics means? What does shared memory mean also?

Integrated graphics is when the graphics card is built into the processor. It is great for activities like web browsing and non-demanding games. The other type of graphics is called 'dedicated graphics' which are the big graphics cards you can buy to install on the motherboard.

Shared memory refers to how integrated graphics shares total system memory. If you have 4GB of total RAM, the system will 'share' some of that with the integrated graphics to improve performance. This is why systems running integrated graphics can often see a large performance boost when upgrading from 4GB of RAM to 8GB of RAM.

In case anyone was wondering, on the specific laptop i have acer v3-551g-x419, it is not possible to alter that 512mb vram limit in the bios. The motherboard doesn't support this so neither does the bios. I don't doubt that it can be done on other systems however. Even by modding the bios for this mobo it is not possible because the mobo is very basic, but maybe on a different mobo.
