Hey,

I'm struggling to get my head around this one. I just baught an LG 55" 4k TV. It supports 4k @ 60hz. It even says it on the HDMI port.

I have an AMD 7970 with a HDMI 2.0 cable.

When using CCC I cannot select 60hz for 2160p. Nor can I on the Windows 7 display settings.

30Hz looks good but shouldnt I be able to get the full 60hz?

If it's not possible, could anyone recommend a quality display port product to get the best quality out of my card?

Many thanks in adance

Lol, I think you're better off spending $350-550 for 970/980, unless you wanna spend $2200 (include tax) for a TV like that, it is the only existing UHD TV with displayport. I paid $2,500 for mine.

Edit: Unless you need some AMD features for something, then you can wait for a new AMD card if you wish.
Thank you for the responses. It looks like it's display port then!

I can't for the life of me find a DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 cable anywhere? Do they even exist?

At this point, probably not. It's likely a bandwidth issue that prevents such a cable from existing.

A thought: 4K is going to become the standard bearer sooner or later (at least one would hope) and there's already a lot of content out there for it. While some of it is upconverted 1080P, some of it is native 4K. How are Blu-Ray players passing it to your set? HDMI. So, perhaps the issue is more in where the video material is coming from?

I've not yet moved over but plan on doing so. I know that many of these new sets have some form of hub that allows connections and then upconverts or passes through. Perhaps the 1.4 spec is fine and the hub makes the 60Hz possible? I don't quite know but it seems likely.

It could also be an issue with your card. I thought that the only cards possible of full 4K @ 60Hz were the new 970/980 line?

^^ He's correct. The problem isn't the cable, or the TV. The HDMI 1.4 spec supported a maximum 4k@30hz which is what the Radeon 7970 has. So, what you need is a TV that has displayport inputs to work with your card, and connect via displayport, or get a new card which has HDMI 2.0 support if you want 4k@60hz.

It's a physical limitation of the HDMI 1.x spec, not something that can be changed via a different cable.

@aladinsane2005 aladinsane2005 can you explain how a mini display port would plug into a 4k tv with only hdmi and no display port input, and also i have a samsung 40" 4k tv that i am trying to use with my mac pro and thie 7970 card. my tv has a service port that looks identical to a normal Display Port., does anyone know if this is in fact a video source input?
