I have overclocked my cpu (AMD 8320 Black Edition) at 4816MHz with cpu voltage at 1.410V. When I go to see my cpu's temperature at HWMonitor says 79C but in AMD Overdrive says that Thermal Margin is 13.5C . Which of these says the truth? My Specs are:
Mobo: Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0

Ram: 2x HyperX 8GB 1600
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
PC Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer

GPU: Sapphire R9 390 Nitro
CPU: AMD 8320 Black Edition

Solution
HWmonitor is not a reliable source for AMD CPU temps
use overdrive as you are doing and keep the thermal margin above 0. you don't want negative either.
it is safe to use all of te thermal margin. it is the max temp for AMD CPU, or 62C minus your current temp. so you have plenty of headroom. 13C in fact. you are safe.

like wut. 4.8 MHz

dayum that's low speed. even the earlier OC people had theirs running at 33MHz. there was a time when it could have been 4.8 though.

anyways welcome to the present.

😀 Thank you!

As far as I know there isn't any software that will give AMD chips an accurate reading. Whatever HW says is wrong even overdride is wrong. I would say you are sitting around 60c. The NH-D15 is a great cooler but its a chore cooling that CPU especially with that overclock.

Hmm but a dual tower NH-D15 should easily cool that volcano. a 212 EVO s going to make it a chore. for the D15 its just a tickle.
