AMD 8350 OC'ing

How's this setup guys?

Build:
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 (MB)
AMD 8350 (CPU)
Corsair H80i (CPU Cooler)
Corsair Vengeance Blue 4x4 1600Mhz (16GB DDR3 RAM)
HIS 7850 2GB Fan x2 (xfire) (GPUs) (OC'd to BCLK 1000MHZ, Memory 1200MHZ each)
Corsair GS700 (PSU)
Corsair Neutron GTX 120GB (OS SSD)
Seagate 1TB x2 (Raid0) (HDD)
Idle for CPU is approx. 20-27'C

Add any tips to help make it cooler or if I should lower the multi and raise the bus or whatever.

My GA-970A-DS3P won`t let me OC shit on my FX-8350 ... when ever i try to OC manually either by raising the multiplier or bus i get windows crash , i`ve tried auto tune .. it goes to 4400 MHz ... but occasionally i get system crash ... personally i envy you

well... that's a lot of vcore... if you need that much to stabilize at that clock speed, i doubt you'll get too much further, and your temps are completely out of control...

Depending on the leakage of your chip, piledrivers typically start to see their temps spiral out of control somewhere between 1.45V and 1.55V on the vcore. Low leakage chips (which yours definately is not) will even start to have issues lower then that.


I'm with the others, you can try to put a fan behind the cpu socket... if your motherboard tray has the hole to allow it. you can also try to put a fan over your vrms... that might help bring down the temps.

The only other option is to find a way to stabilize with less vcore... unfortunately, i've had very little luck with my own piledriver, lowering temps by shifting around the overclock to the cpu frequency, and off the multiplier. so i doubt you'll see much of an improvement doing that.

that's because the ds3p has a 4+1 power phase setup... you probably could overclock a 4 core piledriver with that... and maybe get away with a moderate overclock on a 6 core... but on an 8 core? no chance.

@ingtar33 problem is my current case (DIY-PC Adventurer Green) doesn't have a spot for a fan let alone space and I'm thinking about getting the VRM fan. I have also been playing around with multi only OC vs Bus/multi OC and believe it or not I have cooler temps with this current one vs the multi only @ 4.722Ghz.

@Beezy same about fan, and now I can't find any actual numeric values (i.e. 0-7 as I've seen in other forums) for LLC on this board. The choices I have are Auto, Normal, Extreme, Ultra-High, High, Medium, Regular. Currently I've set it to Extreme even though I don't want it there. The other settings will not support much OC if any for some reason. The vboost on the Ultra-High and High do not even come close to making my OCs feel stable whereas with the Extreme I clocked my current settings (provided pic above) with Prime95 for over an hour with no issues.

Disclaimer: I know those temps are a bit high and that AMD recommends no higher than 55-61'C even though AMD Overdrive gives me head room to 70'C. I have no clue how those guys that got to 5.2Ghz stable were able to do so unless they had an ultra-cool/high flow rate custom cooling loop. Plus, this is not the build I will keep. I'm about to start an Intel build with the i7-4790K and ASRock Z97 OC Formula in a Corsair 900D as my foundation.

Edit: The guys I refer to with the 5.2Ghz OC had lower temps than myself @ 4.88v on VCore with Multi only OC. This is why I assumed the custom loop.

right with 4 power phases for the CPU you will never get stable...i would say try to get it to 4.0GHz max and i may be able to keep it at 4Ghz constant at most. with the 1.52V setting its just too hot. LLC should be set to ultra high.

Is this for Bus or Multiplier OC? and by one point on the manual voltage does it mean just one setting? My voltage increases/decreases @ 0.025 per setting, nothing smaller or bigger that I can see.
