Hi guys I just got my 860k CPU in the post this morning and someone said I would need to update my BIOS. It is currently running F1 what update do I actually need to install.
First of all check your BIOS version and see if it is older than the one you downloaded. You can install the CPU without upgrading the BIOS no problem there.I highly dought there will be compatibility issues but if there are you might experience pc freezes and that is about it. Go into your BIOS and see where you can put the new files version. Most of them will tell you to put them on a USB stick and some of them will recognise the files from your hard drive. If your only option is the USB stick then you should format the usb drive with NTFS and put your files after. Restart computer with the stick connected and enter BIOS. It should be pretty straight forward the upgrade so do not worry about it.
Extract the V7 file to your desktop. Launch @BIOS. Save a "-OLD" of you current BIOS. You may then load the new v7 BIOS. I would recommend than you enable the 'Clear CMOS' function.
NOTE: This will likely reset your boot sequence and HDD setup, in addition to erasing any "saved BIOS profiles"
It would appear the only way to upgrade from F1 to F4 is via DOS. Once you get to F4 you can use the built in bios Q Flash Utility.
I tried all the common ways such as download F7 and F4 extracting and trying to run the program and using Q Flash neither work. There is a note on the Motherboards Gigabyte page which would appear to say you have to go to F4 then F7. It worked nonetheless.
DOS is your friend to get you to F4 if anyone is reading this in the future.
