AMD 955 Black Edition vs AMD FX Bulldozer 4100

hi, i recently upgraded my mobo from msi 790fx to asus Sabre tooth tuff edition. i was wondering to change my 955 chip to the bulldozer 4100. any advice on this move??

No, the 955BE is much faster than the FX-4100. It would be a downgrade!

I agree with amuffin. Stick to the 955 for now and wait for Pilediver (the second gen FX) to think about an upgrade.

If you want a new chip anyway, the 8120 is kind of the only viable option, but even that CPU is not going to be a massive upgrade over your 955 @3.7Ghz. More of a sidegrade instead.

so with this new mobo (asus sabretooth) how high can i actually O.C this chip and still maintain stability??

It would depend on the cooling you have and chip you have, REMEMBER not every chip is the same!

Yeah it all depends on the cooling, I've heard those things hit 4.0ghz, but they may be the later stepping higher clocked ones. It'll definately get 3.7ghz.

3.8 - 4.0+ depending on the chip. Most manage 3.9 or 4.0 you should make 3.7 (980BE) speeds easily even if you don't have a great one.

for what?

imo 955 is ~30-35% better than fx4100 (all at stock, tb off, multithreaded performance)

you can easily hit 4+Ghz on 955 with sabertooth

for overclocking, see amd overclocking club's charts

keep your 955 and wait for pd
