Hey guys , just wondering if this is normal or not. Well , I built a new pc a few months ago expecting it to handle non demanding games on decent fps. The specs of the pc are - amd a10 5800k apu , 8gb 1600mhz ram , 500gb hdd and a 430watt psu. I recentley tried playing GTA SA on low settings and I only got around 30 fps. Is this normal? Thanks. :)

Your APU shares some RAM with it's graphics portion, that's why only 3.8GB. I think you can adjust that in BIOS, so experiment with that and see where the sweet spot is.

Also RAM speed (frequency) is a big factor on how well these APUs can render graphics. If you can tune your RAM settings in BIOS, you should see some tangible benefits. You can also overclock both the CPU and...
No, it should be at least 60fps on that CPU. Considering my 4 year old laptop can run gta 3 without a problem on highest settings, your CPU isn't performing as it should. Try to enable high performance mode in control panel and see if there is a difference.

Well in Battlefield 3 on Ultra 1080p the 5800k gets 22-24fps and GTA SA is a much less demanding game, especially on low so I'd figure you should be getting more than 30fps.

Is vsync or some FPS limiter enabled?

Also, have you installed the latest beta 14.4 drivers from game.amd.com?

Thanks for your reply. I have the high performance mode enabled and I still get bad fps. Plus I play rfactor which could be played on a potato , and I get around 120fps. I was expecting more fps from an old game tbh. Also with my ram, my available physical memory is only 3.8gb. Is that normal? Does anyone have any tips on how to get the most out of my pc?

Thanks for all replys I really appreciate it! And no there is no vsync or FPS limiter enabled. I remember when I was playing rfactor a few months ago I used to get around 250 fps. Now I only get around 120fps on turned down settings. And I havent installed the latest drivers but I will try them now.

Oh thats explains why its quiet low then. Yeah thanks I'll try some tweaks in the BIOS , but I have all the ram frequency set to what it should be , but I will try it again.

You do realise PS3 games are all locked to 30 fps right?

Also the 3.8 GB of RAM could be to do with your version of Windows. Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
I know its a recent and quite capable APU, but could it be down to de-optimised hardware? GTA SA was optimised for nVidia anyway, so maybe that could be a problem?

Come to think of it this might be true. I remember I had a old pc a while back with a pentium 4 and played flight simulator on it ( 2004 maybe?). I later saved the disk and played it on my laptop with a pentium p6200 ( miles ahead) yet it lagged like crazy. Not sure if the same situation applies here.

I'm on a 64 bit version of windows. Well , I also tryed playing beamng techdemo ( a modern game ) and i got around 40fps on low settings which is a bit of a dissapointment lol. Most people on bad pc's on rfactor get like 300fps and I get around 120fps. Before I used to get 280-310fps. 🙁
