Can the AMD A10-6790K support dual monitors well at 1080p resolution without the performance appearing hindered or slow? Does it mostly depend on the motherboards video inputs?
It can, though I wouldn't expect good gaming performance on one. Non-demanding programs like your browser and word documents should be perfectly fine, though. You can run that stuff on a $25 210.

Do you think it might be a better idea to get a small GT 610 or r7 240; something like that?
If you want to do gaming and stuff with dual moniter you need a dedicated gpu.
While AMDs IGP is better then intels it still wont run much. Would definetly handle blu ray and a web page. But gaming on one and watching blu-ray on another may not be do able in 1080p
Yeah, you won't be able to game, but you'll be able to run any other programs just fine, none of those are GPU intensive. Just make sure you have plenty of RAM, 4gb minimum, preferably 8.
Pretty much what was said. You could game on a single moniter and leave the other side at the desktop and be fine. Its what I had to do with my old i5 with integrated.
