Hi, I recently bought a computer that has has A10 6800K as the processor, 8GB RAM, A88XM-P33 for MoBo and 600W PSU. Based on what I've read here that some people said that R9 270x is good or compatible for this kind of processor then the other said APU is good without graphic card, just increase the ram. So I'm kinda of confuse whether to buy GPU or not. I'm a mid-gamer but little disappointed about hearing NOT to BUY A10 6800K since it's not for gaming but instead buy AMD FX series or so I heard..Thank you

Hi,
First let's get this straight, Kaveri is great for gaming... in 720p on medium settings. Secondly, the R9 270x WILL NOT run dual graphics with the APU. If you want any sort of 1080p gaming horsepower, go for it! The R9 270x is an awesome choice! As for the RAM, are you going to use 16GB of ram? With an APU it's important as it uses system memory for the GPU. However, you are still not going to get anywhere near the performance as you would with a 270x.

Go save your bucks, it's worth it.
Well worth it.

the apu is good for casual gaming such as emulators and small applications and older games but its not good for new games.. and its definitely not good enough to compete with a r9 270x in no way ..

So it's okay to use R9 270x (even if its not dual, that's fine) and add another 8GB?

A-series are meant for light- to medium-level gaming; they have integrated graphics but are slightly lower on the CPU side.

Depending on your game, you would be able to reach 60+FPS at 720p or near-1080p resolutions on some games, but would struggle on other games; however, a good GPU like the R9 270/270X would help out with that. For the newer and/or more graphic-intensive games, you may have to keep it at 720p resolution and/or turn the graphics details down.

So, if you're playing older/less-intensive games, the A10 will be fine by itself.

You likely do not need 16GB of RAMs with the 270x .... buy an SSD with the $$$ you were going to use for the extra 8GB.

edit: And, consider an Athlon 860K instead of the A10-6800K.

Also ... With an APU graphics engine in gaming, it's not the quantity of RAMs .... but the speed.

Don't add another 8GB IF you are going with a discrete option. The extra RAM is much better if you are using an APU!

Just to clarify: The A10 6800k is not Kaveri, it is Richland, which was a Trinity refresh. The only graphics cards that the 6800k can utilize in dual graphics are the Radeon HD 6450, 6570, and 6670.

If you purchase a non-Dual-Graphics-able graphics card, the ram becomes less important in an APU, since the integrated graphics will no longer be operative (the dedicated graphics card will over-ride the integrated graphics). With a dedicated graphics card, you will only be using the CPU part of the 6800k, which is basically an Athlon 760k with slightly faster clocks. The R9 270 is a big improvement for 1080p gaming, so I definitely recommend that upgrade instead of ram.
