Amd a10 6800k Asus bios overclock problem

Hey guys and gals. I'm semi new to overclocking. I understand the main aspect of it all, I have over clocked 2 computers before.

I am having trouble overclocking my new amd a10 6800k within my bios. I just don't see any options. Any suggestions?


M/B: asustek f2a85-m [cm1745(fm2)]
Asus EUFI bios utility
Bios version: 5202x64 (latest to my understanding)

I dont know if this solves my problem. It may be that. Otherwise if there is a flashable utility that i can use that i cant find please enlighten me.

I thought there would be but there is nothing. I can tweak some ram reatures, but nothing with cpu.

I found this thread, and im having the same issue as i was trying to flash my bios to hopefully give me some options. Is there a work around? Might have to start another thread for that.

Turbov Evo settings do not stick. So im back to the main question.

Is this motherboard even tweakable. I read somewhere that asus had an option in the manual for ai tweaker but was never actually supported by the premade desktop bios version.(which i have). Could this be the case?

I never use OC'ing software and recommend you don't either.

Wow. That's not the BIOS that they show in the manual. Is this the same board: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/F2A85M/

Yes exact same board. But I bought this computer premade from a box store originally. So my bios version is 5202. And thats apparently the highest my bios goes to currently with the firmware on the premade version m/b bios. - if you get what im saying lol.

Oh. It's not a retail board. The PC is a pre-built? Asus? If so, that may well explain the difference. OEMs will sometimes have the same board as retail but with a proprietary BIOS coded for them. You may be stuck with what you have if that is the case. Bummer, huh?

I guess. Unless I can force flash the bios somehow to oem. I think this is kinda b/S to be honest. Why would a manufacturer dp that? Any suggestions on a work around would be appreciated. Thanks for all the help so far.

I've never flashed an OEM BIOS with a retail version, so I would be remiss to offer any assurance. Interesting thought thought. Often wondered if it would work myself. I'm sure the Asus tech support folks would say no, but you may want to ask around on the Asus forum. Sometimes the reps will be more "forthcoming" when anonymous.

Thanks. I sent their tech support an email explaining everything and basically telling them i feel like ive been tricked into buying a phony motherboard when i purchased the premade. Ill keep this thread updated with results.

So here's the final update:

My message to tech support;

"I Purchased this computer from Tiger Direct a couple years ago. Its definitely dated
now and i have a bought a video card for it now and new cpu(A10 6800k) to give it a
refresh so i can keep using it.

I was trying to overclock my cpu to get more power out of it, but the motherboard
came with a version of bios which i updated (to ver.5202) expecting some new
capabilities like cpu tweaking (AI Tuner) but needless to say there is nothing. Now i
have looked into it and on the motherboard it says F2A85-M/CM1745/DP_MB . Now
according to some on the forums they said because it was a premade desktop, even
though the motherboard is a F2A85-M it has the premade desktop bios on it which
has nothing close to your editing/tuning capabilities that buying the retail verson
would. Ive tried to reflash the bios with the other version but it says "Security
Verification Failed".

Im very unhappy that i thought i was buying a computer with components in it. Not a
"premade" that comes with less options. I feel like ive been tricked. Im really hoping
we can find a solution to this problem as im a fan of asus and their products. But this
is something else... "

Their answer in short;

"We don't recommend you ever clock this motherboard. "

I reply in short;

" Apparently you mis understood me. [explain the same thing]. So if you cannot provide a more detailed accurate solution/message please pass this on to a superior I might be able to speak with."

Their reply in short;

"Please make sure your bios us updated to the latest revision 5202,if it is not than follow the link and instructions."


Are you kidding me? This is not tech support this is discouragement to keep trying to get answers. Unbelievable....

Well see where it goes from here. At the end of the day I've purchased a new gb m/B and returned the 6800k and got an top end fx model cpu. I'm very happy now with it and it cost me an extra 100$. 80 for the m/B and another 20$ on top of the previous cpu.

Sometimes it doesn't pay to even raise one's blood pressure trying to deal with so-called tech support. You did the right thing. A little extra money spent is better than days of more aggravation. Hopefully, you won't have any issues re-activating Windows with the new board installed.

Yup. It's just someone on the other end pressing a series of buttons to make a combination of words that looks legible enough. Then they press enter...

Everything ran perfect. I have a ssd with my windows on it which took off without a hitch.

Asus has bad tech support, and jip you when you buy premade computers from them 😀

I have windows 7 btw. I'll still look into that tho unless it's win8 specific.

As for grabbing the ss of the CPU configuration tab it's no longer in my computer..

But if I can remember correctly it only showed some amd cpu specific power saving features. Nothing more. I was inside and went through every menu 10 times. I have o/c 3 other computers so I didn't miss anything lol.

I wish I could grab it tho. Maybe I can find something online.
