I'm having an issue where I'll be playing games and everything is just fine, and then all of a sudden my computer shuts off. Its annoying because it only happens on a certain few games, and not everything I've played. Most notably and recently its happen on Evolve and Dead Space 3, and when my brother gets on my computer he says Space Engineers crashes like this as well. I'm not sure if its a temperature related issue because I have no way of checking temps, and I have tried download coretemp, but everytime I start it up it freezes my computer, so that won't work. Also, I'm not even using stock cooler I'm using SilverStone Argon series AR06 low profile fan, and my system runs at around 72C in the BIOS. I've reapplied thermal pasted once because I though the first time I applied might not have been sufficient, and the temps still are at 72C. Not sure if this is normal running temperature when in the BIOS, or if this is the problem. One more thing to note is that this could very well be a Windows 10 issues has this has never happened to me when I was playing games on 8.1.

It sounds like the cooler is not mounted properly or not working properly if your idle temps in BIOS are already beyond the max temp for the APU. Is the cooler's fan spinning up to full RPM when the temp increases? Put the stock cooler back on and see if temps return to normal.

I never used the stock cooler because I wanted to clock my system higher than stock, but that would mean I have to place the mounting brackets back on. I will have to check the listed speeds the fan should be go at max.

So I downloaded AMD Overdrive CPU thermal margins tend to be between 45C and 53C when idle. So I'm not understanding why the temps are so high in the BIOS, but I will have to test the temps in the games that are causing the system to presumably crash, or overheat.

That's not too bad for idle TMs. Quite normal. In BIOS, the system is not making use of Cool and Quiet, if you have that enabled. The CPU is always at full clock. So TEMPS will be higher in BIOS than in Windows when C&Q is active and the clocks are lower.
With a 50C TM, your core temp would be about 20C.

I don't believe so. I take it you don't have a 2nd monitor you can watch temps on while gaming?
Afterburner allows that though. But it will be temp not TM. It allows temps to be on-screen while gaming: http://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner
As another work-around if using only 1 monitor, you can run HWmonitor while gaming, and when leaving the game check it for temps (not TM). It records current, minimum, and maximum temps during its run. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
