I've been thinking to upgrade my dual core cpu to a quadcore one.

and here are my choices
AMD a10 8750b for 50$
AMD Ryzen 3 1200 for 100$

I can upgrade my HDD if I chose the AMD a10

here is my current pc specs.

AMD A6 6400k,
6gb 1200mhz memory
300gb HDD space
GTX 750ti
PSU 650w

Don't forget you need to buy DDR4 memory. At minimum 2x4GB 2666MHz, preferably 3200MHz.

You'll also need to REINSTALL Windows (and need a new license too).

You do NOT need an APU, just a CPU when you have a graphics card. I'm assuming you have an FM2+ socket (confirm that).

The X4-845 is $50, and the X4-880K is about $100... you may be able to find a compatible CPU on EBay for cheap too.

X4-870K https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Fk98TW/amd-athlon-x4-870k-39ghz-quad-core-processor-ad870kxbjcsbx

Of course Ryzen is a little better, but it may not make sense on a budget. It is probably better to save up for a better computer and use this for now.

Oh I totally forgot about buying a motherboard.
Yes I have a Fm2+ socket motherboard.

I'll check out those athlon series for now. then save up for better computer.

Ohhh. looks like I need to save a lot of money to get that upgrade.

I just need a quad core cpu for my project. I can't find any Athlon cpu here so if i'm stuck with the A series should I go with the A10 or A8? can you suggest a good cpu. I don't understand the difference between these two because I can see that they both have 4 cores and threads.

He would need a FULL license that qualifies to transfer to a new system. Most people don't have that. I doubt he does. Most people have what is usually called an "OEM" license.

If you bought an OEM license or pre-built which has an OEM license already assigned then THIS answer applies:
