I just finished building a small budget office PC for browsing the internet, word applications, etc.
Everything is brand new.
The system consists of the following:
- AMD A4-6300 APU
- Gigabyte F2A78M-DS2 motherboard
- Arctic 64 Plus CPU cooler
- Oh, and right now, an 80mm outtake fan at the rear of the case
Assuming other hardware is irrelevant for my question so I'll leave it out.
The problem that I am having is that I am concerned about the temps on the APU. Without load sitting in idle, the temp is 39 degrees celcius, stable.
However with little load, it quickly rises above 60 degrees, with an OCCT load test having it flucturate between 66 and 68 degrees. Which I think is very hot!! My main rig running an i3 6320 NEVER goes above 50.
Now then I remembered that during assembly, i accidentially glanced the pre-applied cooling paste on the stock cooler with my elbow. So I figured that was the issue.
Now here is what I have done:
- Went ahead and replaced the stock cooler, because I figured that would have been the problem.
- The cooler now is an Arctic 64 Plus with MX-4 cooling paste pre-applied.
- I have thoroughly rinsed off any old paste on the APU with rubbing alcohol before mounting the new cooler.
- I have verified that the cooler is snug and straight on the APU.
- Cable management in the case is very neat.
Changing the cooler to the Arctic did bring the temps down from above 70-degree-ish that it had with the stock cooler.
Both HWmonitor and Speccy returns the same heat measurements.
So my conclusion is that this is just a hot chip. Are my assumptions right? Are these temps normal?
Oh, if it helps the chip is a 32nm Richland.
