Hi I am trying to help a friend upgrade his PC with the Black Friday sales going on. I was wondering if there are some compatibility issues with some of his PC parts being so old.

CPU - AMD A4-7300
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-DS2
GPU - GTX 750

I was mainly looking to get him a new CPU and GPU which are the AMD Ryzen 3 2200G APU with Vega 8 Graphics and the Gigabyte Radeon RX 580 Gaming 8GB Graphics Card. But is an upgraded Motherboard also necessary for his PC to run more recent games.

Are these parts compatible? If not what is the best option for parts for his PC to be able to run newer games?

Solution
Ryzen requires the AM4 socket on a motherboard.
the CPU he currently has runs an the FM2 socket. which is super old.

If you wanted to buy him a new CPU and GPU, you would also need to buy new motherboard and RAM since Ryzen runs on DDR4 and you can't use the DDR3 he has in his current system.

RAM slower than 3000MHz is a waste of money on Ryzen since it will actually hurt the performance of the CPU.

Here's the bare minimum for such an upgrade assuming you are capable of reusing the current PSU he has (which is assuming it's good enough quality and has enough wattage as well as PCIe connector support for powering the whole system) otherwise a new PSU will be needed as well.

(Note: these parts and choices are based on price and...

Thanks alot mate that was really helpful, I live in Australia though so it might cost me quite abit more ahah

for australia this is the minimum.
the cheapest B450 board is a microATX board.
Doesn't mean much except it's smaller and has a couple less slots and plugs for extra hardware.

Chose the cheapest set of RAM that would see benefit for Ryzen.

Can save some money on top of this buy getting a lesser GPU but that's up to you.
