Which is better for gaming? I was more inclined on getting an i5-2400 at first, but i saw some videos on youtube claiming that the A6-3500 could compete against an i5 (in terms of gaming) is this true?

By the way, im planning to buy a new PC for my little brother as a gift this christmas, so it'd mostly be used for gaming..

Which is better?

Thanks 😀

It depends on if you are using the IGP on either cpu. AMD has much better IGP than any Intel cpu can offer but once there is a discrete card like a gts 250 or any other card for that matter it will be the i5 hands down. If we were talking about mobile gaming then it is amd all the way.

The overclocking on these Sandy Bridge CPUs is super easy/efficient and the headroom is amazing.

The difference in price is much smaller than the difference in performance when overclocking is taken into account. You likely won't need to OC for a while, but that will be a 25%+ free upgrade to your CPU when you do need it in the future.

The problem is, I don't know a thing about OC'ing.. 😛

I want to OC though, it's just that im afraid i might end up breaking my processor XD

Also, I think that a regular i5-2400 would suffice my needs (mostly gaming) right?

The 2500k would be the best option. For overclocking all you need to do is make sure you have a good cooler such as the cooler master hyper 212 and boot into bios and change the multiplier. The multiplier multiplies by incriments of 100mhz, so 40x multiplier would mean 4ghz!

It's really hard not to get the 2500k over the 2400. Mine is under clocked and I still got the 2500k. I figure even if I never use it, I'll make the $30 back on resale in a few years when I upgrade.

I don't like fan noise, so I don't have any fans (or any other moving parts) in my rig, and at stock speeds, the 2500k runs a tad hotter than I'd like when pushed.

I just got my 2 Processors this morning.. 1 for me, and 1 for my younger brother.. Mine is an Intel i5-2400, and the other one is an Intel i3-2100. Gotta say though, the i3 performs almost the same as the i5 when playing games.. Thanks for your tips guys.. I could've gone for the 2500k but at the end of the day, I opted to go for just the 2400 since it suffices all my needs - mostly gaming.

No regrets though! :)

hello dude if you want to buy i5 then buy i5 2500k u get extra speed and the overclocking feature and offcourse hd 3000 for normal use in case your gpu dies or some *** like this and i dont know anout amd's havent use them

i know that my computer runs ther amd a6 3500 and its good and i lso have a computer with the i5 thew i5 is better but my amd is better for simpiler tasks and unlike my i5 does not over heat and melt the coting around the chip and ultimently kill my motherbourd
