Im thinking about an HTPC and i want to be able to record and playback live tv through a tv tuner. will the AMD A6-5400k do this? or should i go with something faster like the AMD A-10 5700k to render the video properly?

This is an analysis of the A10-5800K and A8-5600K (http://www.anandtech.com/show/6347/amd-a10-5800k-a8-5600k-review-trinity-on-the-desktop-part-2/5).

AMD APUs will get the job done, but one thing to consider is power consumption. AMD chips take far more power than Intel chips. Over time, the money you may save by purchasing AMD will be spent incurring electricity costs.

I would personally take an Intel i3 or i5 process for an HTPC build.

okay power is not rlly an issue with A6/A10 as the A6 is 65w to an i5s 77w and i3 55w. The only difference is the A10 which is a 100w cpu, and thats the 5800k where the 5700 is 65watts. So beside the performance between the two cpus the power consumption isnt much and not as big of a difference than sevacall said it would be. And Id go for a A8/A10 as its a quad core over the trinity A6 which is a dual core. The LLano A6s are quad cores. If Intel is an option go there unless gpu performance matters for recording. I havent dealt with it b4 so not to sure
