AMD A8-5500 and RX 460, cpu or gpu bottleneck?

The title is pretty self explanatory.

I've been thinking of buying either a new cpu (ryzen r3 1200 or fx 6300) or a new gpu (gtx 1060).

Definitely don't go with an FX 6300, go with Ryzen 3. But I'd recommend the GTX 1060 for most games. Some games may get bottle necked, but you will see the biggest difference in games by upgrading to a gtx 1060 rather than keeping the 460 and upgrading the CPU.

Wait, just read 1600. The 1060 6GB would be a great upgrade. BUT if you are considering that I would instead invest that chunk of change in the 1400 R5.

The 5500 isn't close to a pwoerhouse either. If you were to upgrade that I wouldn't suggest going from the frying pan and into the fire. The R5 1400 would be a serious increase in performance. If not that then at least a 1300X with a nice motherboard. I am not asking you to break the bank with the 16 or 1700 or even the 1500X. I am only recommending the 1400 because I would like to see your monetary investment be justified by your performance returns. The 6300 would be a bump in performance. But what then? The 8350 and the upgrade path is closed. You have the 1500x, 1600(x) and the 1700(x) in that motherboard's future. More room for growth equates to a better value imo.

I would seriously consider waiting. Why? VEGA!!!! Due out next week some time. So, for now the 1400 is my recommendation. 1500X if you can handle it.
