Hi im looking to upgrade my pc i have a amd a8 6600k and a unbranded gtx 750 ti and a 500 watt psu im looking on getting a gtx 970 graphics card but dont want to waste my money if not going to see the difference as i dont no how good my cpu is (noob) i can play most modern games 1080p medium settings and some on high at 900p will my cpu need upgrading soon thanks in advance ant

You would surely be getting much better performances in all your games, since most of the load will be on the GPU. While the CPU might be a bottleneck at some point, most 3D games don't rely on it enough to cause issues. You should consider upgrading it at some point, but for now you are definitely fine on the CPU level.

Another quick question looking at my psu I have 2 free molex cables but some 970 are powered by 8 pin some 2 6 pins and some 8 and 6 I'm looking at converters online an they use 2 molex just for one 8 pin or 6 pin is this right thanks

I'm at work at the moment il open up computer later and have a look all I no is its 500 watt and made with a company beginning with c but not corsair or cool master three letter if I can remember

what settings could i use for a 960 im mostly medium settings now depending on game and switching from 900p to 1080p looks like im going to have to buy twice its true what they say by cheap pay twice im looking at getting a 970 because life span how long will it be till i will need to upgrade from a 960 and yes im sure its a cit

I can tell you, mixing high-end components and low-end ones often end up in disasters. A good PSU with good internal components and good safety features isn't a bad idea if you'll invest in new components. While the 500W would technically be usable with a GTX970 according to Nvidia, you want to give yourself some headroom for the future. A good modular power supply can last you longer than anything else, since the plug formats don't really change. If you do get a new power supply, I would recommend something the like of the EVGA Supernova 750G2 (I have the G1 and I regret not paying the ''extra'' 40$ to get the G2).

For what I said regarding the mixing of different quality components, my friend bought a new i7-4790k recently. His computer originally came with an i3-4160 and a low-end H81 motherboard. After a couple of weeks, he started to experience issues with his computer. He looked onto it for a while and called me so we could check it out. Turns out his CPU was running with a permanent Vcore of 1.416 (Most users would never go above 1.3V). This was probably due to the lack of initial compatibility of H81s chipsets and poor automatic bios configurations.

Here are the official recommendations in term of PSU from Nvidia. It's also worth noting that if you buy a card from a second manufacturer, like EVGA, Zotac, MSI, you might want to verify that their card don't have different specifications because of their new cooler.

Iv been looking into it I found a corsair 750watt last night and a zotac gtx 970 for 340 pound I'm going to go down that route I'm pretty new to all this and budgeted in the first place so I want to buy a card and psu that's going to last more then 2 years hopefully I'm going to upgrade my cpu to an i5 4th series I think it was in the near future thanks for the replies and being so helpful

Something like this mate https://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-evga-supernova-gs-psu-fully-modular-80plus-gold-45a-single-rail-sli-crossfirex-support-whisper-

Yes, this is a good PSU and the price is so good compared to what we would pay for it here in Canada! I'm jealous 😛

^ good choices - you could have saved close to £30 buying from aria though mate :-/

Overclocking the 6600k - yes can help -4.2/4.3ghz on amd chips let it decently push a 970 - aftermarket cooling required then though so another £20 outlay.
Also the quality of your motherboard is very important.
Your 6600k will do an OK job as it is if you're happy with a straight locked 60fps.

went for scan because of sunday delivery 😀 only thing im getting a bit worried about is when i go on game debate and put all my parts in to test
see if the division will run on my comp its says low 🙁 im going to buy a cpu and motherboard in june and when you say solid 60fps is that on high/ultra settings im playing siege at the moment thanks again
