So lately my amd a8 6600k has been overheating. i still had the stock cooler so i bought an artic freezer pro 7 rev 2 however it is still hanging around 60c and 80c. It overheats whenever i try to play a game and sometimes reaches 100c when i render videos. Is this a normal thing for my cpu or do i have a dodgy chip?

I had that same problem with a core i3-4170.. Even though I had the 'recommended' am.ount of thermal paste on I took some off just to try it and it actually helped so If i were you, I would try to re-apply a little less thermal compound.

this chip is always a problem with my cousin personally i would have gotten a stronger cooler with extra heatpipe at very least

i would ditch the cooler and get a better one with 4 heatpipes and a 120mm fan if your case is small this should be fine
Deepcool GAMMAXX S40
i used this on my cousins smaller case and its kept her cpu always hanging at 40c and maxes out at 60c gaming
i used mx4 paste instead of the stuff it came with

isopropyl alcohol 99 percent and cotton swabs for cleaning the chip and clean the s40 of the paste it has and then put mx4 paste on chip spread it out with a gift card try not to lift card as you spread paste youll need to add a pea size amount and half make sure chip is completely grey with paste attach cooler and use a cotton swab around the cooler to lift up any excess mx4 compound also acts as a air tight seal.

you could do the above to your artic freezer pro 7 rev 2

got any questions give me a shout

I was going to get a better cooler however my case was a bit to small for it so i decided to get the Artic one. I will definatly try that cooler out, is this the one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/DEEPCOOL-Computer-Radiator-GAMMAXX-Auxiliary/dp/B00HXH8TAG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464199421&sr=8-1&keywords=Deepcool+GAMMAXX+S40

yep thats the cooler theres a few others you can try or i recomend

if your case has a side grill for air to enter your case you could get this i know its pricey but its quite the beast at cooling if your case has holes at the side for venting e.g fan slot

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phanteks-ph-tc14cs-cpu-cooler-blue-hs-008-pt.html

what is your pc case theres another i know that would be a bit more well suited as a heatsink but its bigger

get back to me with that and i will see what i can figuire out
