I recently changed my processor and motherboard and have noticed on speccy that the CPU temperature is at 70 degrees while idle and reaches almost 110 degrees while a game is active, i saw in another thread that i should use AMD overdrive to check this but i'm not that smart and had no clue what most of it said >.<
Does anyone have any idea why it would be so high?

You can get Overdrive here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4645-amd-overdrive.html

It is VERY unlikely that your CPU would be at 110C and still running, so it is much more likely that the temperature is being measured incorrectly. Download the software or fire it up if you have it on your computer and tell us what it says you Thermal overhead is on nice blue numbers.. To help you and diagnose the problem, we need good data.

Couldn't find Thermal Overhead but Thermal Margin has blue numbers, they are between 24-26 degrees.

Thermal Margin is what I should have said. Sorry for the confusion.

At idle, that should be close to 60 degrees.

Now for the questions.

What is the approximate temperature in the room with the computer? (Is it air-conditioned)
Check to see that the heatsink fan is attached properly. It should not wobble at all.
How confident are you that you got the thermal paste applied correctly when you put the heatsink on?

That was while a game was active but without the game it was between 30-40, unfortunately i cannot elaborate on the other details because i directly swapped the motherboard with processor and everything attached already, i didnt put the processor in i just moved the motherboard over. :S
As for room temp, just had a look around the house and no sign of a thermometer, i try to keep my room cool, my window is always open and i live in a generally cold area (West coast of wales, UK) i cant really guess on the temp. Just downloaded an app on my phone for the lack of thermometer called "Smart Thermometer" it says 19.6 Degrees C so hopefully thats right.

OK. If that's while working that's not too bad. An idle of 30 -40 is still a bit high, but better. Thanks for room temperature, that's cool so the Thermal Margin should be greater, it's just not as bad.

Take the side panels off the case and run it open and see if the temperatures drop.

What is your CPU? What is your CPU cooler?

After closing everything it has gone up to ~50 sometimes hitting 60 so i think it was that the programs dont read it properly >.< this makes me feel stupid now xD thanks so much for your help though, i dont really keep it in the best area so its a little tough for me to open or even move it at the moment, i will be looking to change its location soon so at least i've learned something from this experience, Thanks again DonkeyOatie much appreciated.
