Hello I have just built a gaming system and my cpu has been running very hot even at idle. I have bought a aftermarket cooler knowing that th ones that come with it suck so I bought a Effizio silent x 80 mm cooler. After applying a pea sized ammount of included thermal paste and installing it correctly the idle temp was 35 degrees t which isnt bad but as soon as I open a program it jumps to about 50 degrees Celsius and in a game such a farcry 3 its at 74 degrees Celsius I have tried re seating the heat sinc and have tried the stock cooler with no success. Is it a faulty cpu making it run hot or is it bad thermal paste or a sucky heat sink please help!

When dealing with an APU, it is sometimes hard to get an accurate core temp with 3rd party software. He best way to verify core temps with an APU is by using AMD's Overdrive: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4645-amd-overdrive.html
Run it and go to CPU STATUS. Check what the Thermal Margins are for the cores. TM is the distance remaining until the CPU reaches the point where it will throttle back its speed to cool down. At load, the TM should still be in the double digits to have sufficient headroom remaining.
Her is a better explanation of what I mean: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2122665/understanding-temperature-amd-cpus-apus.html

No, that would indicate something is not reading correctly. Even with the PC turned off, the cores should be room temp. Idle they should be above that.
Yes, it's safe to assume the 860K would be the same max temp if you mean the A10-7850K and not the HD 7850 gfx card. It is the same CPU.

Example: I have a Phenom II X2 B59. It unlocks to a quad core. But AMD disables the core sensors whenever one unlocks disabled cores. Don't ask me why, they have always just done that whenever "core unlock" is enabled in BIOS. My Phenom II (now a quad) always reads 70C TM in AOD now, indicating the thermal sensors are actively disabled.

I can't say that is what happens to your 860K, but it sure seems like it.
