AMD alternative to Gigabyte Z390UD with Intel Core i9-9900K Coffee Lake 5.0 GHz?

I have to replace an aging Gateway DX4320 with an AMD CPU and have decided to do my own build. The problem is I like speed but am one of those poor underpaid retail working stiffs who help you when you go to the store so money is always an issue.

Here's what I have accumulated already over the past year:

1. Corsair CX65M power supply
2. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
3. Corsair Obsidan 750D Full Tower
4. Four 3.5" one and two terabyte Western Digital black (not blue) hard drives
5. One SSD 500 GB hard drive
6. One blue ray drive
7. One CD/DVD combo drive
8. 16 GB of fast DD4 RAM

So, I need a new motherboard with a CPU!

This Gigabyte Z390 UD ATX motherboard fits my needs perfectly and it's SO affordable at around $120.00:

BUT, I'm looking for a powerful CPU around this magnitude (Intel Core i9-9900K Coffee Lake 3.6 GHz) but it's way overpriced at this time (and many outlets have it listed unavailable):

So I'm wondering is there a way to save significant money by using an AMD combination instead and if so, which motherboard and CPU would be comparable or within throwing distance at the lesser price point?

About $750 for a motherboard and CPU is my max. If I can spend less to meet the original post's objective, that would be awesome.

My motherboard needs are basic, look at that gem I found for $120. I'd like to see an AMD motherboard comparable to that for about the same price. The rest will be spent on the CPU.

For $750 you can get A LOT from AMD.

That is the fastest Ryzen, with a top end motherboard that includes WiFi, and a 240mm RGB AIO cooler. If you don't want the cooler and top flight motherboard you can go this route.

You would still have a RGB HSF that is actually worth something since AMD includes their Wraith Max RGB with the 2700X.

Thanks Jeremy. The second solution with the wraith air cooler and lower cost motherboard fits my needs perfectly. I don't overclock. I found both items at a store nearby for $426 including tax.

One last question, what type and speed of 16 GB RAM would you put on the X470 motherboard?

You will want at least DDR4-2933 since that is the highest official support. However, via XMP you can go higher than that on the Ryzen 2xxx series. As long as the cost isn't exceedingly higher than that of DDR4-3000MHz, going with 3200 or 3400 isn't the worst.

Looking at the board specs on the motherboard, you will probably only want to go with 3200MHz as that is the end of its support.
